Resolved: See below.
Afternoon guys..

I've gone for a solid flywheel conversion- The problem I have is the amount of vibration coming from the clutch pedal.. it's pretty manic.

The work was done by someone else who I now wish I hadn't used.. and I've bled the clutch so the pedal now returns better than it was, so it's not that. Any thoughts? What has the guy done wrong?

p.s. pedal is completely still when the clutch is fully depressed.. when the clutch is engaged if you hover your foot on the clutch slightly it's giving me a free foot massage.

I had mine done last December G60/VR6...

Mine was the same when I got it back, wasn't vibrating wildly, but you could tell it was there.
You could also hear the release bearing going round every so often.

After about 1000 miles the vibration weakened, its still there now but only very slightly (iv done about 10,000 miles since - so im guessing its aligned ok)

See how it goes over the next few hundred miles, if its still vibrating badly, take it back.

Dunno Bill, but I'm thinking it's probably pressure plate fingers bent, especially as the guy had a hard time getting the box out and in.

Anybody ever written a guide to this?

Ok so it turns out the clutch / flywheel kit is made by "National Auto Parts", whoever the hell they are. Ever heard of that kit Bill?

I think i'm just going to have to take it somewhere local (maybe SJB AutoTech in Basingstoke, good reviews) and see what's up with it. Would love to take it to Bill but don't know if I'll get over that way any time soon.

i am thinking of doing this conversion but the more of this thread i read maybe its not a good idea, does every one feel more vibrations through thier cars after fitting this???

Keep it in context.. mine has almost certainly been fitted badly, and only one person above thinks they had similar problems although I don't think they do.

I installed mine correctly mate and its brilliant. Pedal bites right on the floor and clamps hard when released i would 110% recomend it tbh mate.

what benifit is there to this conversion apart from elimiating the duel mass failing,? Get the power down better??

Can take a hell of alot of torque and is cheaper in the long run and also there is loads of performance clutches available for singlemass flywheel. iirc anything upto k04 is fine for it.

Right guys, I just wanted to tidy this thread up so things are clear for future searches...

I took the car to SJB Autotech in Basingstoke and they did a great job, as you would expect.

I am pretty sure the problem here was that the original mechanic re-used the release bearing and it's sleeve when he re-assembled the clutch. I have been given the old parts back and can see it looks original, and looks absolutely knackered.

I now have the Valeo solid flywheel and clutch from the Euro Car Parts kit and it drives great.. no vibration at all, no extra wierd noises, feels just like the stock dual mass but with a little extra shunt if you're not gentle. Lovely. A shame it cost me twice the original amount, but there you go.
