Replacing wishbone bushes...

Well I'm not getting a lot of attention with regards to selling the car... I don't know what it is that people are not interested in, is it because it's yellow or is it because it's got 70K on the clock ... shouldn't be an issue as its fully serviced, timing belt changed and good for a few miles yet - but anyways due to lack of attention it seems I might have to hang onto it now as I'll not be ripped off.

So I need to attention the faults I have on the car, well ... fault because there isn't actually anything else wrong with it other than this.

When I'm driving I get an intermittent creak, moving off from standstill or braking when cawling it comes and goes and can be heard from outside the car... so I checked the bushes and the O/S rear wishbone bush is all broken up ... I've never been here before but this forums sick of hearing it.

Anyways... in the wind my handling is crap, the cars blowing about a fair whack and when I do an average of 70/80 on the motorway every day it makes a windy day a nightmare for me, I'm guessing thats because the wishbone is FUBAR - it's been like this for a while and is well overdue replacement.

I phoned SEAT and they want £125 a side to change the rear bushes, the parts department said they cannot give me a price without my chassis number and it's wild outside today, so I looked on ECP and can get two genuine SEAT wishbones with bushes delivered for £46 - does that sound correct because even though it shows as 96kW ASZ Ibiza 6L ... the wishbones listed show for Golf/Jetta MK2 - are they the same? I know the ARB bushes are!

Any help appreciated... I'm going to be getting my Dad's friend who's a mechanic to fit them for me as a homer at the weekend then I'll get alignment checked elsewhere - if I can get the wishbone with the bushes attached it would likely make the job a lot easier for him. :)

I'm not getting much attention with regards to selling, plus it's only worn bushes.

I think I'm going to get these bushes fixed and then just keep the car. :)

The cars in mint condition and runs perfect, other than a worn bush but that's hardly going to break the bank to replace and I've offered to fix before selling if they wish.

Maybe its because there is ever so slight panel shade differences cause of the yellow? Or maybe because it's 70K mileage? Could also be that I serviced the car myself even though I used OEM parts?

If it sells it sells, if it won't then I'll keep it - I don't mind the car... love it infact but I'd be a lot happier with a 5-Door car with a respectable boot.

First off, I'd check that you and SEAT are definitely talking about the same thing. The wishbones are at the front of the car, but it's the rear bushes on those wishbones that fail. Worth checking that they aren't referring to the suspension bushes at the rear of the car.

I'd be very surprised if the Ibiza and Mk2 Golf use the same front wishbones :confused:
I also didn't the wishbone rear bushes came with the wishbone itself, thought either they were separate, or part of the rear mount.

Would be handy for someone to check on ETKA for you.

Also you'd be best off replacing it with the Cupra bush, which is solid. Those standard ones are crap and give too much movement even when new.

Cool, does anyone know in the off chance the part number/price for the cupra bushes?

I could just get him to fit them.

I dont know the part number sorry. But I would like to say definitly get the cupra ones cos thats what Im going to do! My car is a 2003 and the original bushes split in december 07. I got them replaced with genuine VW bushes in a garage (not main dealer :S) in Jan 08 and 2 WEEKS yes 2WEEKS later they failed again! I got them replaced again (at no cost of mine cos allredy paid once) and the other day... which was like 3 weeks later they failed! again!

Cupra bushes are defo worth considering

Also, has any1 got any idea why 2 pairs of bushes would split in such a short time? Like 5weeks....? lol

ECP are wrong, they're not MK2 Golf wishbones, they're actually specific to the platform (6Q0 number, so also fitted to A2, Fabia and Polo 9N)

Yeah definately go for Cupra bushes, the normal bushes fall apart very quickly!

forgot to say.. Tom thats a nice 160 u got there.. is ther much difference in peformance betwween a 130 an 160? and also... hav u ever raced a remapped 130??

I actually used to have a remapped 130 (AmD - 172bhp) before the Cupra, and in standard form the Cupra felt faster and smoother than the remapped 130. The AmD map was a bit lumpy but it wasnt meant for the Ibiza!

The remapped Cupra is even quicker, I still grin from ear to ear every time I put my foot down! I've never been against another remapped 130 though.

orite, there is a big difference then.. lol I dont know if mines been remapped or not. Cause its a 130 but I raced a clio sport 197 and from 40mph + its exactly the same... and my mates got a golf 130 running at 178.8bhp an im the same as that up to 90mph (i mean 70 on the roads of course.. :D) , an I got behind the new leon FR 170 and that couldnt pull away from me.. .

did u hav any problems wiv the remapped car?

There's a yellow cupra 160 near where I live.. but not had the chance to race it yet.

It sounds like it could be remapped! Only true way to tell is to get it on the rollers.

I had no problems with my 130 or my 160, there are the usual rattles but the engine and box are bulletproof! People experience clutch slip but I don't know how as I had my cars remapped from the start and they('ve) never slipped.

If its silver and the reg ends in VDJ, its my old one!

I might have to get it on the rollers... cos the main thing concerning me is that I have split 2 pairs of front wish bone, rear bushes in 5 weeks!!!

I dont know how! Might need to get cupra bushes.. i think maybe the cause of them breaking must be too much torque or sumthin. cos i dont go over pot holes or kerbs or anything..

You got any plans for the 160? like a remap or anything?

Hmmm, I can only think of one remapped Glacier from here, but it had cream leather, Cupra bumper and a cat D status.

Cupra bushes will definately improve things, will give you a lot of peace of mind too!

Its been remapped from new, 198bhp from Revo. Great map, really smooth and you can turn it off! Got a sat nav head unit for it and thats it I'm afraid! Can't afford to do anything else to it, I'm saving up so I can renovate my house at the minute. To be fair it already has uprated suspension, front mount intercooler, bigger turbo and huge brakes, there isn't much else it needs :)
