Hopefully just a quick question, I have a 1999 pre facelift gti and the gaiter's on handbrake and gearstick look ripped and tatty. Seen some replacements on ebay just wondered if they were easy to replace. Also my exhaust is very rattly when accelerating anyone suffered similar problems:doh:

Not sure if yours is different to mine because mines a pre facelift but the handbrake gaiter has 2 screw under a flap at the back, then it comes off, it's definitely in the haynes.
The gear knob you have to take of, just twist it till it comes off, remember lefty loosey, righty tighty ;)

use a touch off fairy liquid on the hand brake gaiter, and i mean a touch and it will slide on alot easier. the gear knob and gaiter just unscrew and the gaiter should fold over the lip on the plastic panel around the base of it.
