Replacing door lock solenoid

For a while now one of my rear doors has randomnly decided to either remain locked when the other doors are open, or unlocked when the other doors are locked, and juts occassionally it works as it is supposed to. I assume I need a new lock solenoid?

Has anyone else done this before, is this easy to change? And can I pinch one from any Golf/Bora/Octavia at the local scrapyard? I assume I need to wait for a day when the door decides to unlock itself to be able to gain proper access, although I have already discovered that I can take the door trim off when the door is closed.

I am exceptionally broke at the moment so I need to fix it as cheaply as possible.

mines the same dude - its now set to permant lock - unlike the rest of the vag range they have a inspection panel to replace the lock unlike the leon that doesn't

you have to strip the door down and from what i can see you might have to take the glass out too ??? not sure but it looks like it...

looks like a pig of a job so i have just left it till later when i have a bit more money on me - a friend of mine (VW Techy) said jesus christ rather you than me & how bl**dy stupid - so i think it sums it up

Oh, nice. Thanks.

I wasn't too concerned when it was just permantently locked as people rarely get in the back. But now that it randomnly leaves itself unlocked I thought i had better do something about it. I was hoping to go and practice on a VAG car at a scrap yard before I attack mine, but perhaps I won't if they are different.

I'll have a search on VW Vortex I think. Thanks.

The one thing I haven't got is money, as I'm in the throws of buying a flat at the moment!

dead easy to change, i have a drivers one from a skoda, from ebay for a fiver brand new,

part remove door card, leave window switch on, youll see 2 black rubber bungs , remove the cap and slide the window down with the switch until you can see the bolts,

remove door card totally, then loosen the window bolts,

slide the glass upwards to the close position and tape up, so it doesnt slide down.

unscrew all bolts round the silver panel , then move it up and pull out bottom first.

remove the back part of the door handle , by loosening the screw on the inside of the door, thres a little black bung covering it, its an allen key bolt,

undo the two torx screws holding the lock inplace and pop the cable out the handle with a small screwdriver,

unplug lock from wires and the inside door handle.

refit is reversal to this, 30 mins max

That's a great help, thanks.

I had a quick look on ebay but there was only a Toledo one starting at £30 or something. I wasn't sure if they were the same from other VAG cars.

As mine works sometimes but not others, could it be possible that something has just come loose rather than it has packed up altogether?
