Repeat J500 Error Power Steering Fault

HI All,

My first post on here, but i have a problem with my 02 plate Ibiza. It seems after i've reversed at low revs the power steering doesn't come back on until sometimes the next day or a couple days after. m0rk kindly tested it for me and it brought up the following errors,

I've checked the pump contacts (sprayed contact cleaner) - It obviously looks like the power steering control module is faulty (could be a relay) but it's integral into the steering rack. Before i crack on and order and replace a steering rack I wanted soem advice on this fault 01598 - Drive Battery Voltage
07-00 - Signal too Low

Is it worth replacing the battery incase it's this that's playing up and causing the j500. Also looked under the battery flap at the 50Amp fuse for the power steering to find nothing actually attached to it.

Appreciate any advice, thanks in advance;

Hi badger, thanks for the reply mate. Not sure if he scanned that, you think it's worth asking him for another favor & scanning that module for me?

I'll e-mail him in the morning, I've got a feeling he may have just deleted the ones which had no fault which made it easier for me to look at. I'll update ya when i get a reply, thanks again

It would also see if the module is faulty, if it cannot connect then that may explain the no communications error and would suggest a fault with the control module.

Checked the connections, seemed ok so waiting for my dad to get home to triple check. IN the mean time i have replaced the battery anyhow. Turned back on.. lights stayed lit. Turned ignition off and on again and the PAS warning light went out. The steering felt 'light'(lighter than usual) for a couple turns and a couple hundred yards then it popped back up again and i lost power steering again. I'm inclined to change the rack now but the more I scour the internet the more it looks like a PAS Pump problem as it's intermittent... really stumped. I would have thought if the module in the rack was gone then the light would always stay illuminated and i'd always have no power steering.

Could it be as simple as the load sensor cable has broke and is not charging the battery under 2000 revs. Had this on my PD130 and once fixed the fault never came back

Thanks for the reply Davie, i wish it was mate. Checked this first after researching the problem and it's all intact. I can't help but think that because of the intermittent nature of the fault it's the Power Steering Pump itself at fault. Ordered one and if it isnt i get a 20% restocking fee, worth checking it as its a lot easier to do than a rack. I'll keep the post updated incase anyone else has the problem.
