Removing ECU - starting problems

Hi My Mk3 1.6 sport won't start. It starts up for about a second and dies, its happened before and has magically fixed itself. reading some other threads people are saying the ECU could be wet, can anyone tell me how to remove it and if this is advisable. Or if you have any other ideas of why my car won't start. CHEERS!

i had this wen i had Maf issues, there was something blocking the air flow infront of the MAF.

To test it unplug MAF and turn engine on.

Not sure if the 1.6 has a MAF tho?

Sorry to be a pain but as you can probably understand I'm worried about my car and really need it for work, but dont want to get stung spending £££££'s for no reason. I had a VAG COM plugged into my car by a guy I know and it wouldn't communicate, can anyone shed any light on this?does this confirm my ECU is knackered?
