Hi all,

Today tried to wire up my oil temp gauge, got to the bolt that needs to be removed for the temp plug to screw into.

This bolt does not move, and as trying to removed felt like the head was rounding.

Does anyone know if it is a left handed thread?

Anyone got any tips on removing this bolt?

Cheers

Defected!
This is a normal right handed thread, using WD40 or similar will only help the allen key to slip and will not assist in loosening the threads which will very doubtfully have any rust on them anyway. And, as above, these tighten and seal onto a copper washer. It's the surfaces against this washer that are tight. Right, all you need to do is get an allen key, preferably a long handled one. This must be a good quality allen key and not one out of a Christmas cracker or one left over from that flat-pack wardrobe you assembled, buy a new one if you have to. Make sure the allen key is FULLY INSERTED into the cap head and then pull anti-clockwise. Eventually it will 'crack' probably removing the skin from all of your knuckles at the same time. When it has cracked you will find that it will screw out easily with your fingers. It really is that simple but the buggers are really tight and can lead you to believe that you're not doing something properly. Good luck and don't forget the plasters.

Craig; if you get some "plus gas" which is dismantling oil - put some around the head of the bolt the night before to let it soak into the thread; it should make life slightly easier!!
