Remove Plastic trim round gear stick

I'm trying to remove the plastic trim that goes around the gear stick (with the buttons for start/stop etc) can't seem to get anything to pop off using the trim tool. Thanks

You need to pull the plastic with hard grip on the leather-like material around the shift knob itself. If i will have the chance i will make a video . At first it can feel like your going to break it, but the plastic and the clips are very stiff so dont worry about it. Just work with feeling.
