bought some rear 6x4's to replace my crap ones in my mk2, but i cannot seem to get the old ones out. the nuts seem to be very difficult to remove, i only got 1 off each speaker

looks as if the thread on the plastic is crap, and i don't want to mess things up too much by pulling them off. anyone else had this problem?

i tried taking out those bolts and the damn things just spun round and round without coming loose

where is the clip anyway, all i saw was a plastic bolt where the speaker fitted and a bolt holding it on

Hi, sorry, difficult to describe. There is plastic stalk in each corner of the speaker, and there is a metal 'nut' holding the speaker up to the housing. The plastic stalk is not threaded. The metal 'nut' therefore cannot be loosened just by twisting it - as there is no thread for it to travel down. Instead it is held in place by some springy steel inside the 'nut'. If you prise that springy steel away from the stalk, you should find that you can pull the 'nut' down quite easily. Hope that makes some sort of sense.

the dash speakers are just tweeters, and you would need to make custom mounts to fit anything else in there.

The door speakers are 17.5cm ;)

Rear speakers are 6"x4" standard size.

Pioneer do a replacement set for the dash and the doors check on their website i think there around £80 for custom fit speakers. very nice sound

if you visit bassjunkies.co.uk you can put the car you have in and they will tell you waht speakers will fit. they also have them in stock and are pretty cheap.

Yeah, I had a set of these in mine when it was just a road car. I agree they give a good sound and you don't have to hack the interior of your car to pieces. IIRC, the Pioneer kit is the same one as the Golf Mk3.
