Remote on Key Doesn't work

Hi to all, i'm a one week old, 2000 Toledo 1.6 16v owner. I live in Trinidad West Indies and don't have much support for my vehicle here. Can anyone please help me figure out why my key remote which is supposed to lock and unlock my doors doesn't work? I changed the batteries and tried the procedure outlined in my owner's manual but still haven't had any luck.

Thank you....

Hi, thank you for the reply.
I believe they are, I put them in just as I removed the old ones plus the little red light blinks whenever I press the buttons. Is this a clear enough sign?

Yes I did, used the key without the remote to turn on the ignition, closed the door, locked it with the remote key, then unlocked it with the remote key while holding the unlock button, removed the non-remote key from the ignition and......Nothing. This is the method discribed in my manual, except for the "nothing" part. Does this method sound familiar to you?

I can unlock, but can't lock the doors by remote key. When i opening and closing through drivers door lock everything is ok.

When my remote stopped working it wouldnt lock or unlock

i changed the part that has the buttons and batteries in it and no probs (i had had a small componant fall off the tiny printed circuit board, resoldering didnt work):)
hope you get it sorted as it is one of the most frustrating things!

i had to resync mine last night, you realluy have to di it all inside 30 secs , first time i took too long and it didnt work, second time as soon as i removed the spare key from the ignition it worked fine.

btw i thought i used the lock button while locking too.

You may say that i'm crazy, but i resolve locking door problem on this way.
Since in my country automafia is very busy these days, i decided to protect my toledo with some alarm system (sometimes in future)But since this problem with remote key dirving me crazy i couldn't wait anymore. So alarm installed today and i opening and locking car doors with alarm remote key, and now it's working perfectly , so i don't need car remote key for opening & locking.
btw am i crazy??????

Well like Sam20V, I changed the part of the key that housed the electronics and everything works fine now.....
