way to tell if its infra red or not is whether the rear view mirror is attached at the top of the windscreen or about 3 inches down usually 98 onwards cars had radio and pre 98 had infra red

no its not connected to the rear view mirror as thats connected to the wind screen. its really becoming annoyin now i just want to know either way. i asked someone in the local seat garage and just to look at it was gonna cos me between 50 to 100 sheets. it can only be at most 2 problems the fob or the reciever. ive actually went out and bought a new key fob exactly the same as the original but slightly different fittings.

the fitting thing you mentioned has got me worried ?

some of the keys (pre flip) look similar but are indeed different both in design and freq of operation

I tell you what’s annoying, is when people can’t write their sentences in English, then when someone asks for clarification they get the ump or are aggressive to someone whos taken the time to read through the thread and try to help.

Can I ask if the key fob is now working or not? Or is it that it doesn’t work from over 20 metres that bothering you?
You say you brought a new key fob. Has this been coded to the car?

no as i said it has not worked since i bought the car. ive tried all the crap people put on here about coding none of it works. so i bought a new key fob from the same year but because its not from 1997 its just made for the 1997 models its mouldings are slightly different. is that better for you my leige

Ok so a few things.
1 As you say it now appears that 2 key fobs don't work, therefore the issue may be with the receiver. So its not fair to say you have tried all the cr@p on here about coding and it does'nt work. As perhaps it is working but something else is wrong.
2 Have you confirmed that the transmitter you brought is the correct frequency etc so its actually compatable?

3 I am pressuming the central locking works when the key is used.

Dont you hate it when people give you lectures on here about misspelling and punctuation. then get it wrong them selves, oh well life goes on.
Anyway, so does anyone know where i can find my receiver so i cant get it a kick until it works. im starting to give up. and yes the central locking does work when i use the key.

lol not sure i mentioned misspelling or punctuation... im not that fussed as long as sentences are readable.
Never mind.

Oh and so you know, you can find the information you require by searching on the net. Ive done it and its a shame i now have no inclination to provide this information. (ive thrown my toys out of the pram).

Moral of the story; if you are hoping others take time out of their day to help you out, make sure you get the information before you get sarky.

As you say "oh well life goes on", so ill go get on with mine :)

lol dont panic not suicidal  just intrigued then shall we say as to how u said it was different and didnt seem to fit - made me wonder if its wrong in the first place which means no matter what you do it wont activate or work and only frustrate etc

as a wise old man once said - rather than stare a problem child in the face and shout loud go back to its birth and see its birth and growth step by step whats wrong

he was a wiring tech @ Smiths Aviation as his full time job :cartman: smart arse buddha @ weekends :rolleyes:

Well i think your missing the point of the forum its a place to discuss and queries. If you have looked at other threads and such like, you would see that most people get in to what grown ups call CONVERSATIONS. So if you dont want to help people out and point out there errors you can but dont waste my time.

anyway cheers cuprakid i'll have a look later on. im starting to think the guy who sold me the car has maybe pulled a fast one i bet it aint even got one. oh well

hey what!! whats this pick on me. i asked a question then someone came in and started talking about my misspelling or whatever. and yes im at work now and its quite stressful. thats why im on here.
how can you give anyone all the information if there is something wrong then they might say "well is this happening and that", then you would say "oh yeh thats happening i forgot cheers mate so what do i do next". that concludes todays lesson on how a correct forum works.
i have not sorted the problem yet but i will have a look under my dash for the silver box with siemans writen on it. end of!!! not stressing nor have never stressed on here.

Lie down on your back in the passenger footwell and look up and get your head right under the dash also try and get your arms in first with a torch or something and you'll see it straight away.
Though god knows how you would get it out, or why you would get out its not like theres any switches or anything.

I switched my key to a flipkey and it worked straight away its more than likely the key rather than the reciever.

If you don't believe its the key go to a car locksmith place and they should be able to test the cars reciever and key for way less than a Seat dealer.
