Remote Key Fob not working after battery change

Hi everyone, I am new to the site and need some help please. We have an 09 mk5 Ibiza and recently changed the battery in the key fob about 2hrs after noticing it not working and afterwards it lost sync and wouldnt remotely open/lock anymore, car still starts fine so it's just remote. I did a quick search on here and couldn't really find a solution (probably didnt look properly) and the VAG videos on YouTube didn't work either.

I called Seat and they reckon £45 to sort it as needs vag-com but just wondered if anyone here had managed to resync it themselves as seems a little ridiculous that a keyfob battery change should cost so much....

Any help/advice would be much appreciated

Thanks
Andrew

First confirm that the key fob is working ( small red flashing light when you press the buttons )

I'm sure it tells you in the manual how to re-sync it.

Something like -
press the lock button on the key - then manually lock the car with the key within 30 secs
press the unlock button on the key - then manually unlock the car with the key within 30 secs

Thanks for the reply, yeah the red light is flashing, all the instructions I could find in the manual was to change between different locking/unlocking options but nothing on re-syncing, manual just says "check technical service" and nothing more.

I am sure the re-sync instruction is on the same page as the changing battery instructions - page 76 I think

Cheers Deano, Just had another look in the manual and nothing in there that I can see, there are even no proper instructions about changing battery. Oh well will just have to take it in.

Deano is right. I'm 110% sure my manual also has instructions for resyncing. I don't have it with me now ......

Probably me but I couldn't find it anywhere in the manual either in the locking/unlocking section or anywhere else. Also the Seat service dept didn't seem to offer anything up when I spoke to them. If anyone could let me know what it says I would appreciate it.

Try this (it's from the online Skoda manual, Fabia and Octavia).

Ensure door is locked using key.
Press lock button on remote control.
Within 1 minute unlock with the key.

There is always the old system - disconnect the car battery for 5 mins.

After re-connecting the battery - hold the lock button till it locks.

Did anyone get this to work? My fob randomly stopped working today. Unlocked, went to work and then it just wouldn't lock again. The light flashes on the fob so I'm pretty sure the battery is fine.

I've checked the book for re-sync issue and it just says check the technical guide...which I don't have.

no remote lock

I hve a key that the red lights flash happily but nothing i attempt on resync fixes the remote locking. UI have to keep opening manually which means that unless I get the key before someone opens another door the alarm goes off.

FUll resync options gratefully appreciated, I might just buy a new key and start from scratch.

I have a 52 reg Seat Leon Mk1 Tdi 110 SE.

I'm making the assumption here that you have only one remote key and one basic key, is that correct?

If so, maybe just buy a new/used remote part for your key, that will be a lot cheaper than buying a complete new key!

Key "smart" functions are in two parts, (1) engine imobilliser = transponder is in main key body and is passive, (2) remote opening/closing function is contained within the part that is separate to the main key body, and has a battery/batteries.
