Remote Central Locking

Hi,

I have recently bought a 1997 Ibiza SXE, which had a few minor problems, one of which being that the remote central locking doesn't work. I believe it is an RF remote rather than the earlier infra red remotes (the LED is inbetween the two buttons).

I have changed the batteries and followed the re-programming instructions in both the owners manual and those posted on this forum, but it still doesn't work.

The lights flash and the key tries to reprogram but it still doesn't work, has anyone got any other suggestions ?

It also has an aftermarket alarm installed if this makes a difference, however the alarm does not operate the central locking.

does it make any indication that it is working with the car, like a light glows on the car or something when you press a button?

i cant see any lights glowing on the dash, but then im not really sure where I should be looking. I've read many of the threads on here about the central locking and tried most the suggestions, still with no luck :/

have you tried both key fobs? as in re programming them both? if its got an aftermarket alarm... maybe they cut the wires to fit central locking to the new alarm and it went tits up or it didnt work... does it still work with the key? and does the alarm have a central locking interface?

Just trying to think of possibilities here

The alarm (Flashpoint) fob works fine, sets the alarm and disarms etc, I haven't tried reprogramming that yet. According to the manual with my alarm, the model installed on my car cannot operate the central locking from the alarm key fob, so im guessing it doesn't have a central locking interface.

I only have one Seat Remote key and it works the central locking fine when used in the door.

just read a different post and its a 1.4... i didnt know the lower models had remote locking!? anyways, i have no idea of what it could be but im sure someone will... maybe the feature has been switched off or something?

do you have access to any other remotes ? roughly where are ya ? maybe a member local and willing

even off another car if its the same type it can be programmed to yours as a test and then back again

failing that i'd check the battery voltage as even new batteries are known to be low

also, keep trying.... it must have taken me over 20 attempts to get my key-fob to resync when I changed the batteries !!

I'll keep trying, ibiza_95 is it possible then that I somehow have a remote key fob for a car that has not remote reciever ? I though central locking was standard on the SXE. I don't have access to any other remote fobs.

I'm in the high wycombe area (bucks) and Maidstone (kent) if a friendly member feels like helping me out.

i have no idea if the lower ones did or not but mine doesnt 1.4 CL but id have thought it was more of a higher spec toy... could be wrong and will probably be proven so in about 2 minutes

Just found this from parkers:

SXE has sunroof, elec front windows, remote central locking, split rear seat, airbag, height adjustable driver's seat.

almost 2 mintues :-D
