Remapping questions? (PD100)

I'm now the proud owner of a new crono yellow Seat Ibiza Sport tdi. As standard it only outputs 98Bhp, I want to get it remapped for more power. But first I have a few questions that need answering.

Will a remap void my warrantee?

Will my fuel economy drop? (I bought a diesel primarily to save me money)

Some companies offer a live remap as opposed to a generic map. Will a live map benefit me more than a generic map? My car is completely standard and will remain that way.

As the car is brand new will I have to 'Run' the car in first, before a remap? If so for how long?

Thanks guys

Will a remap void my warrantee? esentially yes, but some dealers are remap friendly.

Will my fuel economy drop? depends if you use the extra power all the time, in normal driving it should improve slightly becuase of the extra torque meaning you dont have to push the pedal so hard or change down so often, but if you use the extra power alot then you will see it drop.

Some companies offer a live remap as opposed to a generic map. Will a live map benefit me more than a generic map? Yes a live map is tailored to your requirements and car, much better.

As the car is brand new will I have to 'Run' the car in first, before a remap? nope, ive known people who have driven them from the dealers down the road to be remapped, and also for example muddyboots' one was remapped from brand new, done as a dealer option on import. check the TDI FAQ at the top of the TDI section for our thoughts on running in TDIs.

If so for how long? as before, not needed.

i remapped my pd130

it will void any warrenty to do with the engine unles you have it removed before going to the dealer...

my economy is marginally better with the new map, but worse when i boot it.

a live map will get more power but if your not doing any more mods a generic one would be fine IMO

maybe run the car in for a couple of thousand then map it..

dont granny the engine tho, give it some stick as diesels love it

A good remap should be tailored to your needs. Not everybody wants all out power gains and like you, you wish to keep the good fuel economy of your car but gain a little more power. A custom map will do this and what you can also have is a map which gives you maximum torque but not maximum BHP.

More torque allows you to drive in higher gears. This in turn means less revs and that in turn means less fuel!

I don't think it is necessary to run a car in these days as they are built with such good close tolerances it makes no difference. Also there are an increasing number of articles regarding the "break in of engines" and the fact that they should indeed be driven very hard from the word go due to the honing pattern of the pistons and more accurate seating in of the piston rings. Read this for something to think about:

A good proper map should be all but invisible to most people even the dealers. If the software code and hardware code and servicing time stamps are all written back onto the ECU I.E. no original data is changed except for the appropriate maps, then it will be invisible. Until somebody with knowledge of that car takes it for a drive:) or really digs deep and looks at the actual component maps![B)]
