Remapping an older car

I've had my TDI Sport 130 from new and it is just over 5 years old. I'm toying with the idea of a remap but I'm worried about wether it is suitable for an older car like mine. It has been ultra reliable since I've had it (too reliable!!) and this as well as the fact I've just forked out for a new cambelt and water pump makes me loathe to part with it.

I'd be looking at a modest power increase to around 160bhp and so far Custom Code seems to fit the bill. I don't want to fit uprated brakes or a clutch. But am I asking for a world of pain?

why do you need a water pump thought they just checked it when they change the cambelt?

Never heard anyone say it makes any difference to the age of the car, I want custom code remap too but keep putting it off as it's not cheap.

always wise to change it when having the cambelt changed, else if it goes you have to take the cambelt off again.

As for remapping it, yes assuming its been well maintained then theres no reason to not do it. Be careful how much torque is dialed in as you dont want that clutch going.

i'd say 160 is not unreasonable, especially if you get a panel air filter or induction kit as in free up the intake more.

yeah some garages tend to recommend changing the water pump with plastic blades with one that has metal blades as the plastic degrades over time.

i think as custom code and revo seem to be quite a torque spikey map you'd be better off with a p torque map as its a lot smoother power delivery and will save the clutch from being hammered

5 year old cars are not old cars. Some of the mk3 ibizas are 10yr+ and people still remap them.

Where are you based at? P-Torque are in Wolverhampton and get very good & smooth results from derv's. I have a stage 2 p-torque on my 20VT cupra and its a very good map :)

Formula One are site sponsers and close to me and heard good things from a member at a meet, never heard anyone say they felt the remap was harsh at all. Anyway stage 1 is not a custom remap anyway.

The garage said to me they check my water pump and it did not need changing.
