Well, the decision has been made to sell the FR and i'm not sure if I want to try selling it with the current clutch and smf combo (mentioned in an earlier thread). I would be driving round in a megane 225 now if it wasn't for the flywheel putting the guy off.

The cheapest option would be to fit the oem sachs clutch/dmf combo (£383 from eurocarparts) and hope the clutch can put up with it until its sold. The other option is to get the remap removed too. It has been mapped by a highly regarded mobile mapper, but it is proving difficult to get hold of him at the moment.

My question is...would i have to get him to return it to stock or would any mapper be able to do it?

Any good VAG tuner car return the ecu back to stock without any problems. The ecu cannot be locked out from the Ident & write options, they can be tagged and locked out from the flash read option. The stock file is generic and as long as the latest version software is use you will have no problems at all.

Or offer your ecu to someone and have theirs in return, and maybe some cash ;)
You'll need a registered version of vag-com to re-match the ECU's up.

If your fitting a new clutch, what makes you think it would not last??

Is it possible to get the REVO trial loaded, then after 5 hours it should return to stock settings... just a thought?

REVOs version of a stock map anyway. There was a thread about a while ago where someone did this, the trial ran out and the settings that were supposed to be stock were actually hampering performance, it was slower than OEM. I'm not saying this happens all the time but if you want the stock map, make sure it's genuine. If I wanted the stock map, i'd head back to AMD where it is saved or SEAT to get an up to date version uploaded.

Yeah, a detuned map is not the same as the OE map from SEAT. Personally I wouldn't remove the map unless the buyer asked for it or it wasn't selling. Out of interest can the TDI's OE clutch really not take a remapped engine very well?

I think the torque destroys them pretty quickly from what I remember & they slip alot, it's pot luck whether they last or not. I think it depends on mileage, a 20k clutch will handle it better than a 50k clutch etc. I am sure if you put an OEM clutch in, brand new, it would last a while. Just make sure the buyer knows it's remapped, they should really do their own research on remaps before they look for a car with one.
I don't think having a remap devalues the car mind you, just narrowes your potential buyers who want an OEM car. Saying that, having an OEM car might make you lose a few buyers who want one pre-mapped.

So the 150 TDI maps to about 180bhp and 285ft/lbs (from 236ft/lbs). Doesn't sound like the greatest amount of torque in the world. Must be a shoddy OE clutch in that case. Maybe it's due to the characteristics of the derv with all the torque hitting at once.

thanks for all the replies guys.

It's not a case of wanting to remove the map really, more a case of concern about it not selling because of the smf (and changing it to an oem combo and it slipping from the start). In my opinion, to drive, it is streets ahead of the oem clutch; it's responsive and actually feels like it's engaging rather than the sloppy oem setup.

It's the fact that it clatters when idling. It doesn't really bother me, and it shouldn't concern anyone that knows their VAG cars. I'll just have to make sure I spell it out in capital letters!!

removing the map is an option i was weighing up, although the car is a much better drive with it so i'd rather not :) I think i'll advertise as is for starters and see what happens!

mines at about 185bhp and 310ft/lb...the standard unit maxes out at 300ft/lb, but could have been abused by the previous owner (a lady :ban:). I just didnt want to put the standard back and have it slip and damage a perfectly good flywheel.
