Remap on FR affecting handling

I have been thinking about some sort of remap on my FR but my niggling fear is that doing anything to push the engine much above 200BHP may affect the handling of a front wheel drive car.
I realise I may be in danger of being shouted at by cupra owners but some things I have read suggest that the handling on the cupra isn't quite as good as the FR and I thought if this is true it may be suffering from the same thing as other non-4WD monster hot hatches in terms of handling eg. the vxr.
Can any FR owners who have remapped, or even cupra owners dispel this?

uprate the handling first, then the brakes, then remap it.... all will be fine then mate.

also driving style will come in to this, if you toe it everywhere the fwd will struggle for traction.. but learnt o feather the power in and it will be fine. good tyres will help aswell.

As J walker comments - go for it!!!!, but with NORMAL driving you are still OK my biggest problem was with the front tyres <10k when I first got the car but now 15-18k [ I assume we are talking TDI?]

Hi,

I have remapped my FR TDI which is kicking out 205bhp. I have not seem a change in handling. Obviously there is more power at the front wheel so if you are coming out of a corner and plant your foot then you will naturally drift out and understeer but anyone that didn't know that shouldn't be mapping their cars anyway.

I recently drove the new Focus RS which is front wheel drive and 300bhp. Yes you do get torque steer but i was shocked at how well it laid the power down to the front wheels.

It put a massive smile on my face. But on a different note i have read that whilst the new Leon Cupra is 267bhp vs the RS 300bhp. The Cupra is only two tenths of a second slower 0-62mph.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it Ford.

The diesel FR obviously have more torque but the same driving style still applies to the petrol engine. Feather the throttle out a corner and i guarantee you will come out quicker with a remapped car or your money back.
