Remap Doncaster / Newark / Retford area

Hi, have had my car for 5 days, and considering a remap due to the praise from y'all. Need a few questions answering first:

1. What type / from who, remaps are available in my area?
2. My mpg at the moment is poor, I think due to the fact that the car has only covered 23k and not worn in properly yet, and I only have a 14 mile commute to work. Will a remap make things worse, in terms of mpg?

When you say poor mpg what do you mean?

Hard driving around town sees - 20mpg ish
Town ambling - 35mpg
A road blasts - 30mpg ish
Motorways at 80 odd - 44mpg

42mpg on a commute isn't so bad - with a remap you will only get worse mpg if you use the extra power, if you're just ambling you'll get slightly better.

It's not always best to be in 'top' gear either ... if you keep the revs to between 2k and 3k that's where the fun is - i find mine is more economical on a trailing throttle in 2nd / 3rd around town if i want to drive carefully.

We are based in Chesterfield (S41 9EY); we have quite a few customers come from the Doncaster area!

With the Custom-Code Phase 1 remap power will increase to 180-185bhp and torque will increase to 290-300lb/ft

Custom-Code offers the smoothest power and torque curves out there especially with the 1.9TDi as they are prone to clutch slip problems with high torque spikes, where as we keep that to a minimum

In terms of MPG with steady town or motorway driving you will see an increase of around 5-10mpg

i find that many of the same cars have slightly different mpg.

some lower millage cars use more some less, it is all down to the car and the way it is driven.
I dont think there is a scientific answer for what mpg it should be.


The price for a remap from me is only £295 all inc,, all my files are made by me and not just sent from head office.
Offering a personal service for customer needs and spacific to the car , not a generic loaded map from an unknown tuner.

I use Winols tuning software, in my opinion probabaly the most advanced tuning software out there.

Althow as you know there are other tuners and other companys offering a simlar service.

I usually get 57mpg out of my little Fabia
I had a Tunit box put on to mine and then got 61mpg
Upped the bhp quite a bit and the torque made me smile all the time
The beaut about the Tunit box is that it is transferable on to ALL the 1.9 PD engines
We had a mk4 Golf with 150bhp on our rollers get 200bhp with this tunit box as it is possible to remap the Tunit itself
Then when it comes to sell the car you can just take it off and put it on to another PD engined VAG car
So it is possible to put it on to ebay and get some money back
£398.00 + VAT for the Tunit

Whats the difference between stage 1 & 2?

I carnt comment of other tuners work regarding stg1 and stg2

The difference in my 2 types of maps is that the first map type is for the standard car.
the second map type is for the modifyed car.

both maps are personal to your car and are made from the original that i will read from your car.
Not just loaded from a database of tuned files.

I'm currently on 22k miles & normally average high 40's MPG (around 48 normally).

On a motorway run, expect to see over 50. The best I've ever had out of the car was 62 mpg (that was driving at every speed limit like a granny as I was running out of diesel !!)

If you are getting a remap - I'd also consider the cost of a new clutch in there, as the TDI's have a tendancy to slip after a remap......

Ok thanks, had a clutch done on my 405 Mi16 but that was £600, what would an uprated clutch fitted cost me, any ideas?

Also, there is a huge amount of difference in price from some of these mappers, is that down to quality?

I wouldn't say it's down to quality as such, but R&D costs have to be recuperated from somewhere so that's passed onto the consumer along with a profit margin built in. Obviously the profit margin varies from company to company and some are willing to have a lower one in order to gain a larger market share.

However, it's not just about cost, you have to look into the overall package i.e. does it do everything you want it to? Do you want to be able to switch the remap on and off easily? Do you want a large dealer network? Also don't look at just the figures, look at the power delivery as well. Numbers on a screen/bit of paper won't be able to tell you about that, so the only real way of telling whether it performs as you want it to is to either experience it for yourself or to rely on others to tell you about theirs.
