Ive heard that a few dealerships will approve of certain companies ie Revo remapping cars which are still under warranty and the dealership standing by the warranty if an issue arises ?

Does anybody know anything about this and if so does it have to be from new ? My cars a 2012 2.0 tdi FR with 8,500 miles on the clock. Could I approach the dealership and ask them ?
Im not that impressed with the 143 bhp and need more.

Thanks
Ste

You can always ask them to see what they say. I've had plenty of experience with engine related issues etc whilst my car was mapped (And had a revo decal on the front) with forge induction and full bov system and it never affected any warranty work. However they are within their rights to refuse it if they can justify a link between the modification and the issue at hand.

Having said that they're unlikely to know its mapped unless you have decals etc. Yes they can tell if they log it but it's doubtful they would.

Cheers dude, I suppose it cant hurt to ask them.

Say I got a remap then had an engine warranty issue and took it to my local dealership and they said they wont do the work because its been remapped therefore voiding my warranty.... Could I just say ok and take it to another dealership and try them ? Or would it be logged on a database that the first dealership wouldnt do the warranty work ?

Sorry for all the questions, Its my first brand new car and Ive never had dealings with dealerships about the warranty.

Don't worry, i don't actually know whether they log it or not as i have never been in this situation. Hopefully someone on here can confirm whether thats the case or not. I guess it makes sense that they would log it if warranty work was declined because of a mod as it would save you from tricking another dealership into doing the work... But imo you should be fine with a map anyway :)

Ok, Thanks again mate. Im going to look into this with my dealership and if they say no I might put it on hold until there is not as long left on the warranty.... Or I'll probably not be able to wait and end up getting it remapped anyway.

I had a Superchips remap done on my car last month & they provide a mechanical breakdown warranty for a year or 30, 000 miles (Whichever is sooner).

The garage who did the remap stated that in the event of a dealer refusing to carry out work due to the remap then this warranty would kick in.

This didn't cost me any extra. But does give me a bit of reassurance about the remap

Latest diagnostic software by vag recognises a modified ecu so gives them an excuse to void warranty on engine and logs a T1 code on database so no other garage can do anything about it

They seem to log everything on the system. My aftermarket stereo and LEDs were logged on the system...

Best thing to do IMO is get the mapped removed before taking it in the dealer, then put back on when you get it back again. Might be a pain but could save you up to £1000s if they decide they aren't going to pay out...

They can still tell, as soon as they plug in to these cars the computer tells them :(

Only way a modification can void your warranty is if they can prove that the modification is directly linked to the malfunction

Only way you can avoid detection is by using a boost controller.

You still need to adjust fuel and timing though. You can't add loads more air and no fuel, granted the ecu adaptable to a certain extent but not that much.

My I also add the dealers can tell if you've had it mapped and then reflashed to standard...lose lose unless you're on 3rd party warranty

Pretty sure you can request no diagnostics/updates to be run on your car as long as you make it known at the time you put your car in.

It doesn't void your warranty exactly it just flags it as having been modified at some point and they will in the first instance probably deny you on any powertrain warranty but the good old EU BER means they have to prove that it caused the issue. There's plenty of people who plead ignorance with this sort of stuff and get away with it.

To be honest ive been thinking about it and i find it hard to beleive that they would void much in terms of warranty due to the fact it has to be proved it cuased damage, im thinking i may have it done but then who knows, a few other tweaks first maybe.

What about tuning chip? I heard they give some good results! IMO its a lot cheaper and easy to remove it before taking it to dealer.

My point was assuming that the map was linked to the fault.

IMHO unless you're lucky, mapped cars with oil problems are never going to see warranty work on the engine

Thanks for all the input, Im going to ask at the dealership.
I seem to remember when I bought my car one of the younger salesman saying he used to own a remapped MK4 FR tdi and he'd had warranty work done without hassle, I didnt take in what he was saying at the time as I was to excited about my new car.

Asking them won't be good enough.

I'd want it in full writing that a remap would not cause any issues with the warranty on the vehicle. Otherwise they could just say 'yes that's fine.' and then when you have an issue you'll be told the opposite.
