Ok, I picked up my 57 ibiza FR 130 1.9 tfi yesterday (yay) and am loving driving it. But now im thinking about looking after my nice car...

I was at tescos looking for an in car charger for my ipod (£20?! went to ebay and got one for £2!!) and saw they had a 3 for 2 on car cleanign stuff... picked up some bits i needed and then saw this stuff called redex. I've never heard of it but its an adative aimed at cleaning/protecting the engine (apparently) It's on offer at the moment (under a fiver if i remember correctly) and I was wondering if this is worth a shot.

SO has anyone had any expericences with redex? here's a linky to their site the one at tesco was "Redex Disel Treatment". not really the forum but also saw this and thought it looked a good deal?

Cheers,
-Cyph

Redex has been around decades and was the most common additive people used.
I'm sure it'll not do your car any harm but I would recommend Millers DPS4. There are many members on here that use the stuff.

Personally I find the engine a little more refined and slightly better mpg (+2mpg). Some even say slightly more power (increased cetaine rating) not that you'd notice it.

You can get the stuff from most places.

As regards the Autoglym kit, I wouldn't bother. It's got a sponge in which you don't really want to use as it picks up grit and just scratches the hell out of your car. The polishing cloth is fairly abrasive aswell, much better buying microfibre cloths instead. After that the small bottles are only about half the size of the normal bottles, and work out at about half the price. Some of them you may not want or need, so I'd say don't bother.

Millers Diesel Power Sport 4 is what you want aswell.

Using redex diesel additive in mine at the mo. Don't know whether its purely psychological or what, but it does seem smoother

Once I've used the rest of the bottle though, I think I will be trying Millers to compare.

IMO millers is far better than redex. I found the car wasnt happy with redex, but would get better power, mpg and the engine was smoother with millers. Halfords seems to be the best place for this stuff. Have a search, theres loads of stuff on here about millers.

Oh, and good choice of car BTW :)

I also use Millers DS4, got it from Halfords. I would recommend it!

With regards to the cleaning kit, do not use a sponge, as mentioned before, they pick up grit and can cause swirl marks all over the paint work, you are best off with a wash-mit and using the two bucket method.

Sorry for the hijack but I use old worcester source type bottles for this. One per diesel car. They all live in a box in the boot and use it at fill up and refill when I get home - guesstimate with a pyrex jug that now permanently resides in the garage. i.e. guess 0 - 100ml on the side.

Ive just gone over to diesel (ibiza) from having all petrol beforehand. I personally find petrols more temperamental on injection and similar issues, whenever ive used additives in them I have noticed a difference, I think over time you get build ups.

I used redex on my ibiza, it ran smoother when it was added so it didnt do any harm. I personally think diesels dont need so much attention, bar air filter and oil. But adding stuff like redex certainly wont do any harm and is probably good preventative maintenance.
