red temp warning light and beep

hi folks
a little help please
when i started the car up last night i got a warning beep and the light inside the temp gauge was flasing. outside temp was 1 degree. drove a couple of miles to pick the mrs up with it flashing all the way. had to wait 'cause shes never on time (women!) so turned off engine. when i started up to come home my engine temp was normal, dead centre, outside temp was still 1 degree but there was no beep and no red light.
my mate reckons it could just be warning me that its a bit frosty outside but im not so sure 'cause it didnt happen at all last winter.
cant find my drivers manual so i thought i'd better ask the experts. leon drivers

Clean the prongs in the header tank for the coolant.
That should cure it.

Clean them by scraping them with a screwdriver

Yeah I have the same problem will give that a try. Or at least get my bro who's a mechanic too

3rd year running mine does it, you can ignore it and when spring comes you'll have forgotten all about it

i ignore it, or just unplug the sensor, plug it back in, restart the car and no light
