Recaro rears/child seats fit?

Can anyone tell me; do child seats fit in the back of an LCR with the recaro rear seat option?

All I can say on CRS, is to try one and see - should never buy a CRS without trial fitting it.

Are you looking for front or rear facing (ie which age group?)

Can't see it being a major problem to get one in there - more space than in a lot of cars

Previous job of mine was responsibility for CRS/airbags/crash dummies govt policy so drop me a PM if you want a recommendation/advice

Thanks guys. It's a forward facing one (baby is 11months now). I just looked at pics of the rear recaros and thought they looked quite narrow. I cannot seem to pm yet? don't know if my acc needs activating or something?

You're probably just over the threshold now ;)

Forward facing shouldn't be a problem, as it's easier to get them pulled down tight into the seat.

The airbag on the Mk1 Leon is switchable (in the glovebox) and if you're ever using a CRS in the front, no matter if it's front or rear facing, it's safer to switch it off.

For the rear, just make sure it's damn tight in there - be warned you may end up with some damage to the seat cushion over time. See if you can PM now and I'll give you more info

Still can't pm you. I always travel with her in the rear, haven't dared in the front of any car even with the airbags turned off, just can't 100% trust. Where is recomended for travelling, in the front or back of a car?

Statistically the safest place is in the centre of the back seat, but that's due to (a) furthest from any likely point of impact and (b) not many people install CRS there! You don't get a 3rd belt with the Recaro interior do you?

Apart from that the back is generally safer.

If you can afford an ISOFix CRS (and if you get the CRS anchorages with Recaros) then take a look at the Britax Duo - can also be used with seat belt in other cars. You'll be amazed how easy to install it is, and can be taken out whenever you need to.

When fitted a CRS it needs to be REALLY tight - when you're taking the slack out of the seat belt you need your knee in the base of the CRS to get some weight in there. When you think it's tight enough, grab the harness straps that strap your little 'un in and pull forwards - the CRS shouldn't move (unless you're gorilla strength!)

Thoroughly recommend trying different seats in the car - Mothercare world (out of town stores) are pretty good as they can bring a few out to the car to try, and make sure they fit right.

Brooksy do you have an LCR with rear recaros?

I have them in mine, and although i dont know the definitive answer i would hazard a guess as to say no, a child seat probably wont fit. The edges are raised, like bucket seats.

Just read you dont yet own an LCR, rear recaros are a very hard find, i do believe only a selection of 210 cars had them fitted as an expensive option. I dont think they were available for the 225? I may be wrong though!

Yeah, i was having that as an option on my 225 until i tried to fit a child sit in the back. unfortunatly due to the middle section being solid, a child seat wouldnt sit properly, so i had to go for the Cloth Option.

Thanks guys, will probs try and get an LCR without the recaros, as you say they are rare but i have seen a lot of lcr's on my searching over the last few weeks! @BX16v, i was looking at buying an isofix type seat knowing that the LCR will take one. thanks again.

The 225 had the option of the Recaros.
In regards to having a baby seat on Recaros, basically you will be paying a fair few quid to find one that is suitable. My mates just had his daughter and he's finding it hard to find a seat to fit his car (racing type seats). Alternatley if it is possible to find the 60 from the 40/60 rear seats you could in theory change them over (having the centre seat available).

Two points on the recaros - if you're looking at a later 225 then it won't have recaros in the back anyway (unless they've been swapped from an earlier car), the other is that a LOT of LCRs advertised with recaros don't actually have them! People assume the R on the seat back means recaro, whereas the genuine recaro seats will have 'recaro' written across

If recaro rear seats still have ISOFix then I'd expect the Duo to fit - you'll need to check the Britax Fit Finder web site to make sure the Leon is approved with the Duo (the approval process was very complicated on early ISOFix seats)

let me know if you need any more info

Yes much comfier, they hold you in a lot more, the side bolsters are firmer and the headrests are different!

Just to clear up matters -All 225's only had the option of front Recaros no rears ever on the list-I ordered one of the first 225's in July 2003 and it arrived in the country in November so it was one of the first 225's ordered. Only had an option of front Recaros at £700 and yes they are far superior in comfort than standard but the quality of the cloth is probably no better than the standard seats.

If i was buying the car brand new i wouldnt have paid £1500 extra for the recaros but as 2nd hand i would definitely be looking for them!
