Rear Window Shattered

Hi guys and gals,

Not been on for a long time, but thought i needed to post this in a new thread. I have searched and there is another thread on from january on the same issue.

Yesterday it was cold morning, a bit frosty, but i had the heated rear screen on when i left my house for work. 45 mins later, as i neared work, heated rear screen had been off for along time, an almighty bang, looked in the rear view mirror to see a hole where my rear windsreen was...!!!!

I never hit a bump, no door slaming, no pressure differences no nothing, driving at 60mph on a smooth road then BANG! sounded like a gun shot!

My car is a 1.9tdi stylance, just over 3 years old, 37000miles, its been through many cold winter mornings in its time, why all of a sudden would it just self destruct?

For any others, what ages and mileages do your cars have, would be interesting to know if its a random thing or it is cars of a certain age...

Hi, happened to someone I knew from Killie this winter on a frosty day. Same model as yours too except it less than 2yo. This time it occurred overnight. You might be thinking it's common for that to happen to your car in Kilmarnock, but she's certain no one smashed it as it was on the drive in a quiet street etc.

There's been quite a few.
It would be interesting to find out if people have been getting them repaired under warrantee.

Yes it also happened to me, got it checked by Seat, they said it was fine, although they paid the £75 insurance excess which they took off my last service, so something at least!

Maybe this is another reason why the rear screen has been changed on the facelift. Not just for visibility.
