Hi,
Have a noisy rear drivers side wheel bearing (i think) and just want to know how easy they are to change. D.I.Y or garage?

Cheers

Discs are even easier - no shoes to get in the way

Big hammer, big socket and a hard place to hit them all together.

just done the rear wheel bearings on mine. reayyl easy and straight forward. the only thing with mine was the caliper carriers were slightly seazed.

they are just tap in and tap out

cheers boys, was going to take it to a local garage. they said that on a gti 2.0 8v they might have to change the rear hub cos you can't buy the bearing seporate? thinking that this isn't true, has anyone heard of this befre?

your garage is either an idiot, or a crook

because the bearings are available, and it has no 'hub' to speak of

my golf mk2 had drums, and was simply a tapperd bearing held in by one split pin and one large nut.. if its that easy on my beeza with discs your sorted.

2 tapered bearings, but it's teh same parts as on the mk2 golf

anyone (and I mean anyone) can do wheel bearings

well it was 2, but one came out and the other was on the drum wasnt it? i cant remember, but yeh its a DIY jobbie just dont over tighten then or youll crush then, the best thing to do is handtighten the nut, then a nats **** more with a short rachet, then back it off so theres a lil bit of "play"

your local garage is taking the piss or haven't a scooby.....

as M0rk says, they tap out and back in......

did them on my mk2 with drums and a mates 8v with discs, piece of piss....

and the parts are available as a kit from ECP at 6 quid or something

hey lads, thanks for the help, just ordered the parts from hobins. apparentley you cant buy the bearings on their own, they come pressed into a new disc. £16 +vat each side. bargain!!

Cheers again

Rik

not a bad price. however you can get the from euro parts seperate. in a bearing kit. do you get a new end cap an split spin and seal in these pre pressed ones?

success!!! cancelled the seat parts and got a bearing kit from e.k brakes! £7 +vat per side, managed to do it yesterday afternoon, just like to say thanks for all your help lads!

Fair chuffed with myself !
