Rear washer - NOT

My other half bought a 53 plate Ibiza last weekend. We knew that the waser at the rear wasn't working, but I thought it would be a quick fix and nothing to worry about. A quick bit of searching revealed a disconnected pipe in the engine bay where it passes through the bulkhead. Ten minutes later and it was all fixed (but I have no skin on my knuckles!). Great I thought, job done...... Oh no - the washer fluid now drains out from behind the OSR wheel, so all I've done is moved the leak from the front to the back of the car!

Did a quick search and found this is quicte a common problem, but that usually the water is coming out of the tailgate indicating that the hose has popped off the bcak of the spray nozzle. This is definately not the case - it is definately somewhere inside the rear wing! So I have a couple of questions for you more knowledgeable than I:

Where does the pipe run from front to back (I can't see it anywhere)?
Where is the best place to get at it around the rear of the car (as there is clearly another disconnection), do I go through from the boot, behind the tail lights or take the wheel arch liner and/or bumper off?

Oh and just one other question - how can something so simple be designed so poorly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Shouldn't a 53 plate still be under warranty? Get them to fix it and lose all the skin from their hands. ;)

Not sure about the warranty... haven't found anything definitive in the paperwork. Should it apply to the 3rd owner? I know sometimes manufacturers don't transfer warranties to subsequent purchasers (tight gits!) Is the warranty period/conditions clearly stated somewhere that I can find?

Thanks for your help.....

It should say something in the manual about transferal of ownership along with some cards you fill in. Try calling your local dealer and seing what they say if you can't find anything.

Fraid I've got no idea. When I had problems with my Ibiza it was in the boot lid. Try doing a little search here and see if anything comes up as it's happened to various people in the past.

i think m8 its in the o/s/r side plastic trim the bit that the seat belt goes into, take that off and in that panel there are small holes another good place to loose your skin!!! i did one bout a month ago that was there, it was bloody tight to get it clipped in tho!!! hope this helps ;)

Wot u av to do is take the trim that runs long the boot edge where the catch is for the tailgate off. To do this pull from the bottom of the panel quick and sharp, upwards. It is only held in with clips- nearly impossible to break.
Then reove the little trim to the right of that which almost drops off.
Then you will see a screw under that - remove it.
The trim where the seat goes into belt has three visible screws, 2 on the boot side and one from where the seat belt goes in- remove them.
Pull firmly on that panel and it should come out fairly easily.
Behind it is where you will find the pipe that is leaking.. Yay
The best thing to does it put a hose clip on them to stop them from doing it agen!
I can do them in about 2 mins but i do them nearly everyday soooo...
Replace panels how u brought them off and jobs a fish.;)
Shouldnt rip skin off your hands...if u do u have done it wrong!:(

Or take it to a garage!

Hope this helps.

Cotta,

Thanks m8, just hooked up the pipe again - took about 10 mins.....
There's a wierd snap-together elbow inside the wing just where you said which had popped apart. It wont to it again though - muchos tape and zip-ties!

Thanks for your help.....
