Hi

I've desperately been trying to find a clear answer.

I've bought an Ibiza.

Without knowing the differences between all of them, I am pretty sure it is the mk5 (called 6j at least) 5 door 1.2 diesel ecomotive with 75hp engine and some 55kwh.. Not sure what most of this means, but that is not the matter.

I bought it used, first registered september 2012, making it a 2013 model, if I understood correctly.

It has the original headunit, and I am pretty sure it is called 6j2035153h. I haven't yet had the balls to take it out.

Problem is: No rear speakers.

As mentioned it is a 5 door model. I haven't had the balls to take off the backdoor panels either, to check if there are even cables for installing the speakers.

I've noticed others not having a front/back fader function in the radio settings, and neither have I. Had it been present, I would be pretty sure that the unit was able to run additional speakers.

From what I've gathered, my radio says it supports 4x20 watts... I've 2 tweeters installed and 2 midtone/bass speakers intalled in the front doors. (tweeters are not on the door, but on the sidepanel holind ght front windows).

I desperately want to install rearspeakers, and I am totally able to find someone to help me remove the sidepanels (hopefully cables are already there, else it's gonna be much of a hazzle, from what I've gathered).

Is there any way to easily check, if the headunit itself supports additional speakers, to the ones already installed?

I've read that something called a VAG COM might be able to enable the fader feature, but haven't been able to find any confirming it. My local Seat dealer refuses to help me, as apparently there is a newer facelifted model with additional extra equipment... Does that make my version an mk4?

TL;DR:

Many questions, but the important one - how can I find out whether my headunit does or doesn't support the installation of additional speakers, for the rear doors?

(I am already aware of some adapters needed to be bought, and what size units I need and that sort.. But maybe I'll just follow up on this thread, as I progress through my journey of installing reardoor speakers)

I hope I haven't missed a topic similar to this one, as I've searched near and far for clear answers.. If they are even possible to get.

Thanks in advance

Vagcom, now known as vcds, is needed to enable the fader option. I had rear speakers enabled on my car (practically same car as yours, no physical rear speakers) for testing purposes and can confirm that this can be done easily. When enabled vcds reports these faults:

Code:
2 Faults Found:

00872 - Bass Speaker Rear Left (R15)

            011 - Open Circuit

             Freeze Frame:

                    Fault Priority: 5

I have no idea what all that means, but I'll take that sheet to a mechanic or someone with the knowledge of a vagcom, and what vcds...

Thanks a lot for the reply - hopefully it'll get me a step closer to getting my car upgraded. :)

Have a nice weekend.

I don't know if it helps but we have the same model car. I took the radio out yesterday for the very same thing to see if there was any wiring. In ours from the back of the radio there were no speaker cables that were linked into the rear speaker holes for the radio. So can't be any in the door.

Exactly what I was going to do as well.
Unfortunately I lack the tools for it, and girlfriend has the car in the other end of the country, so gotta wait a bit until I can take out the radio again.

Thanks for the tip though - always nice with help. :)

Cheers
