Rear seat catch

Does anybody know how to remove the mechanism for the catch holding the rear seat backs up on a mk1 leon.

One of the plastic tabs that attach the handle to the catch has broken on mine. Can the handle and mechanism be pulled out without pulling the seats apart?

use a screw driver to push the hook back around....it moves in a circular motion, I think it goes towards the front of the car. It should have a dint in the top to use the screw driver on..

I may have the incorrect part so ignore at your pleasure :)

sorry did not make it clear before it is the plastic handle that is broken.. Anyway just forced it off, it broke in the process but I have ordered another one (£1.06). There is nothing but some plastic tabs holding it in place (nothing to unscrew etc). hope this helps anybody in the future.

Post up the part number in the sticky thread when it arrives or if you know it.

Just put the replacement handle on, it was a easy, you just need to hold to catch up with a screw driver and force the handle down.
Part no. 1J0885643EB41

I took a pic on my phone before i put it in if anybody wants to see it but i cannot figure out how to put it on here

I found this thread after spending ages on Goole trying to sort the same problem.

The rear set handle broke on my back seat as well, so I can’t release the seat to get to tip it forward to get to the catch. Was this the same with you? How do you release the seat to fit the new part?

If the new handle is all you need to replace the faulty one for it to work then I'd carefully break the old one into bits to get at the mech. You should be able to then reach in with a screwdriver or something to release the seat and fit the new part.

The handle has already broken-off. Do you stick the screwdriver down the hole (where the broken handle sits) or did you sit in the boot and try and release the catch from behind the seat?

Down the hole I'd imagine, there must be a way to release the mech.
I have not done this, mearly specultating. It will probably end up with you taking a chainsaw to the seat and going the Recaro route

Ok cool. I have tried sitting in the boot and poking about like a lock-picker to release the seat - to no avail. So I'll try the sticking-something-down-the-hole approach.

You need to get into the boot and ust a flat head screw driver to force the catch (on the seat back) up where it is attached to the car. The spring was fairly stiff on mine but it was not too hard to do.

The replacememt handle should then just push in. (See Pics)

Ok, thanks. It’s the catch on my 2/3 seat that’s broken, the 1/3 seat back still works – so I can tilt the 1/3 seat forward to see how the catch (that fixes the seat to the car) works.

It’s just v difficult trying to release it from sitting in the boot with a piece of coat-hanger-wire and a screwdriver, but I’ll give it another go tonight – sitting in my boot with a screwdriver.
