rear screen element

Whilst I was in the boot fixing the leaking rear wash wipe, I thought I'd have a butchers at my rear demister, its not worked for ages and the fuse/heated mirrors are ok.

So, armed with my trustee plastic spatula I set about removing the boot lid trim and screen surround, wind the clock forward 90 minutes and half a packet of elastoplast, it looks like the spade connector at some point has broken off the element, its been soldered back on (badly) and has now come adrift again.

What are my options, I'm not keen on trying to solder it cos' I'll end up blowing the car up and It will probably fall off after a week, or do I get another screen fitted, unless theres some kind of conductive adhesive that I can glue it with.

Any ideas guys?, Suppose I could leave sat nav on the rear shelf and park in the middle of town and wait for some scally to put a brick through the rear window, but this does seem a bit extreme!! :p

do you have enough room to drill a little hole on the element and snapped spade and put a nut and bolt through it but the element is prob snapped right where it meets the glass i would imagine. stick a pic on here mate if you can and we will prob come up with something.

PS how did you fix the leaky water pipe cos mine is leaking too!!

No can do with the pic, it took me 2 hours to get the bl00dy trim off then back on lol!!

But yeah, your right, the spade con. snapped off flush with the glass so there's nothing to attath to, just the larger margin of the element on the actual glass.

The rear washer was a piece of p!ss, remove the passenger side rear seat belt inertia cover, then the piece of carpet up the side of the boot (unplug the aux 12v ciggie socket) and its ther infront of you, then its just a push and snap fit, I was dreading doing it, same thing happened on my golf mk4 I had to drop the roof lining that time!

what about peeling the spade back off the glass a little so can put a hole in it. Could just a little nut bolt and washer to fix then. Just and idea but not sure if you can do it?! I wouldnt worry to much about soldering it though its easy and its not going to be moving much after so worth a go surely

bit of an update...

My trusty LCR had been parked up for 3 months while i went and played in the desert, upon my return it was as damp as a damp thing inside (window regulator foam seal on drivers door, that was last weeks little job!).

As a result its like kew gardens in the car now as i dry it out gradually, ie windows steamier than a chip shop on a damp november evening, so having no rear de-mister has become a bit of an issue.

As i said before the thought of a hot soldering iron and a piece of expensive glass is not filling me with confidence, so i hit google hard last night and ordered some of this..

its a bit pricy for a tube of glue, but still cheaper than a new rear screen.

So im off now to break my nails removing the rear window trim, ready for when the glue turns up in the week, I'll let you know if its any good.
