Mine has also done this recently. At first I thought it was jammed up with dirt, as my car has spent most of the winter dirty (500 miles a week across fen roads :( ) but I think the spring has gone.

Will be interested to see the answers to this too.

You can relace the S badge trunk lid opener quite easily if need be. It is held in place by two nuts on the inside which can be accessed when you remove the plastic trim from inside the boot lid. The handle does not physically operate the boot opening mechanism as such but merely trips a solenoid which opens the boot. The part number for the badge/ handle is 5P0.827.565C, available from your local dealer. There is an internal spring of some sort but it does not appear to be easily accessed. I'd try a a good shot of WD40 to see if that helps, if not it is an easy item to replace as stated.
