Rear Door's won't unlock

HELP!!!!

Both my rear doors won't unlock. Can't even unlock them from the inside by pulling the handle (there is resistance). Nothing happens with central locking or trying to open from inside. My dad (who is a mechanic) took it to a mate of his who is a specialist in vehical electronics and he said its not a electrical problem, so he got on the phone to one of his mates at the local Seat Stealer and was told its a common problem, something has physically broken. But he wasn't anymore helpful then that, typical Stealer! He did say you have to destroy the door cards and something else inside the door to fix it though. Sounds expensive to me!

Anyone else had this "common" problem? Don't know what to do!

Cheers

Nooo - it's almost certainly electrical .... sounds like the deadlocks

I've been having all sorts of problems with the Toledo for the last couple of months - sometimes it won't lock, sometimes it won't unlock

... sometimes it unlocks (with the remote) then seconds later won't lock again

Have patience, cos I bet if you go out to the car now (in the morning) and plip the button to unlock the car, all the doors will open :D

Mine must be a shorting wire somewhere cos the battery was dead when I came out to the car after leaving it for the weekend, but I jumped it off a neighbour's car and *touch wood* the problem seems to have gone away

They haven't worked for weeks now so I am sure its not as you say. It did start off how you described, with the rears sometimes unlocking and sometimes not, but now they just don't work ever!

Anymore wisdom guys?

MIne does this too, sometimes it unlocks, sometimes it doesn't. Normally when it doesn't unlock itself you can manually open it with the interior handle, but for a while it was completely jammed like yours is. I did discover that you can get the rear door card off while the door is closed though - without breaking anything. I sprayed some WD40 through some holes but it didn't seem to do anything.

I think it is the lock mechanism/solenoid, but I don't know how easy it is to get off if the door is stuck shut.

Hey Guys,

Need to bump this thread because i have a similar problem.

I have a 2000 TDi S Leon and on my rear drivers side door, its stuck shut. Same problem, at the start, it was very intermittent, but now however its very rare that it opens.

I managed to get door card off, but hasnt helped too much, because to remove the lock unit itself (as far as i know) do I need to have the door open to get at the 2 torx screws?

Is it possible to "hot wire" the deadlock or solenoid or whatever?

Any ideas of suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Scott, Can you open your door from the inside? I could not. I ended up taking the door card off, breaking the lock & solnoid to get the door open then replacing with new ones (£75 per door). At first they still wouldn't open on the central locking but would unlock from the inside, a couple of days later they worked on the central locking, not sure if thats the CPU learning that the doors open again! So now they open on the central locking but its not completely right as they open on the first click of the key fob along with the drivers door! At least they open now tho!

Nah, i can't get it at all - only randomly opens, but hasn't happened in a while...

I shall just have to use brute force then i guess! Cheers for the info.

Just one point to consider before hacking away at the door (cos I've had to do this)

... you've not made any changes around the dash centre console have you ? new radio, a/c panel etc etc ?

I lost my entire central locking (and mirrors) on and off for weeks over Christmas .......just a few weeks after jamming a new headunit screen into the Toledo, but of course I didn't think of that at the time

Since testing a different headunit and then subsequently re-fitting the screen a few months ago .... *touch wood* I've not had a single problem - I'm guessing it could have been pulling on a plug somewhere ??

Strangely - not often - I'd be able to get in through one of the doors but not others

I'm not saying this is any sort of a fix, but might save you some trim and time if my problem, and it's remedy was anything more than just coincidence

Now that you mention it, i did fit a new head unit shortly before the door stopped working, aswell as pulling off the trim to replace a bulb...

Must look into it!

Appreciate the idea, thanks!
