Rear caliper/handbrake issues

I am having a few issues with my rear calipers/hand brake. I have a long on-going project car and I have recently just built back up the rear end of the car. Ive rebuilt the calipers with new seals and then put new discs and pads in etc and reconnected them up but theres no brake fluid in the system as there are no front lines/calipers on the car so im not sure if this is the cause to my issues.

Basically, the issues are....when i pull the handbrake up, one side the piston clamps the disc perfectly and works well, i release the handbrake but then the piston doesnt release? The caliper stays on?
Then the other side, when the handbrake is applied, the piston comes out a little bit but not enough to clamp the disc so the handbrake doesnt work, and then when the handbrake is released, the piston goes all the way back in again.
So one side sticks on, one side doesnt work at all, ive tried adjusted the cable inside the car but it doesnt seem to be any better.
Any ideas? Maybe 2 new calipers?
Cheers

These callipers are well known for seizing up.
I have been through 4 or 5 in two years. Left rear is not a year old and is starting to play up already.
One is binding on when hand brake is released. Hit a bump or two and it releases and works fine.
No signs that it is faulty.
Works fine after that. Doesn’t always do it either.
Very annoying.
I’m going to look at an upgrade as I’m sick of. Using new callipers at 70 quid a pop.

What upgrades are common on the rear? Ive just paid for new discs and pads and dont want to be paying for new discs and pads as well as calipers haha!
Im debating just disconnecting the handbrake cables and just sacking it off as its a track car anyway but would be nice to sort properly.
Theyre not seized as Ive rebuilt them and theyre all free, but just doesnt seem to work properly. Annoying.

Not sure yet but I’m going to look into golfR rear callipers etc see if they fit properly. Should think it’s possibl.

Buy the Caliper helper springs which assist with stopping them binding.
When you fit the front calipers, try pumping the pedal halfway down a few times to seat the pistons

I was wondering if it needed fluid in and bleeding etc for the pistons to come and retract in properly. So might hold off for now until the fronts are connected and i can bleed it, before i think about buying new calipers!

If you’ve just overhauled the rear calipers then they should work fine. Did you screw each piston back in to starting point?

Add me to the list, i've just replaced both my rear calipers again too! :censored::censored: As bruce and others have said, they were free and working fine, but just occasionally they would half bind for no obvious reason. When your driving at motorway speeds it's no joke as they'd probably be hot enough to catch fire after a few miles.

Wound them right back down as far as they’ll go.
One comes out but stays out even though the lever on the back is fine? And the other comes out a bit then just retracts back in all the way so just doesn’t work or self adjust

The piston should inch out as you move the lever as this is the mechanism for taking up slack when the pads and disc wear.
Might be something amiss in the caliper!
