Hi all,

Just on with changing the rear discs and pads. I've noticed there are no pad spring clips.

I don't have any on the current pads and none supplied with the new ones.

Does anyone know if they should be supplied or if they are not needed?

Car is a 184 fr pre face-lift.

Cheers

Possibly due to VW Group using another, more Eastern brake supplier, Mondo or Mando is one of their "nicely cheaper" suppliers of brake parts.

I'm guessing that you are meaning the SS inserts that get located on the calliper carrier at the points where the pads rest/move on.
If the brakes are from an older more established supplier like TRW, then maybe like my wife's 2015 VW Polo, they have been deleted to save a few pennies. I have considered buying and fitting a set when the time comes for new rear pads - though obviously I'll check to make sure that there is enough space there for them to get fitted without stopping the pads from being able to move

Yes thats what im asking about (pic below), I am having the same thought about buying some and fitting them but not sure they can be bought on their own. Thanks for confirming they are not standard.

I have TRW carriers and where the pads sit does have some corrosion which I think has caused the brakes not to work properly, one side has used all the pad and the other has not.

Im going to clean up where the pad sits with a file as best I can and grease it up with LM grease (high temp) for now and keep an eye on it. I dont want to have to take this apart and clean up regularly as the bolts holding the carrier on are a pitta.

Ive got a 180 petrol and the spring clips are built onto the pads at either end. Possibly same brakes as yours take a picrure of calliper and show us

I'm sure that places like ECP sell them cheaply and possibly genuine TRW parts

It could be an age/model thing, sounds like the OP's had the rear pads out and discovered that the clips he expected were no longer fitted to his car, but your car has a later version of these rear brakes and maybe even has an electric handbrake as well as the spring function included in the ends of the pads.

No - it does NOT have separate pad fitting kit like in your photo.
The springs are (should be) riveted to the ears/sides of the pads. The caliper carriers are just cast iron, clean up the carrier abutments where the pads slide 'gently' with a wire brush or file - checking the pad fits snugly but not too tight or loose! Then a little brake system grease.
As you mentioned yes this is a TRW caliper - also front is a TRW caliper.

Please note - although they are TRW calipers - TRW aftermarket parts you see in your local motor factors are NOT OEM.
