well they can check if they really wanted 2, but must say for what its worth I would pay the diffrence. Its been coverd that they can invalidate your insurance and yer with revo u can turn it off but, if u crash u might not be in a state 2 do so.

Dont get a company off ebay to do your remap! Itll probably end up being a resistor or a crap remap that wont be that smooth.

Revo is a company which supplies re maps for all VAG cars. It has a very good reputation and if you purchase a SPS device (about the size of a packet of cigarettes with a dial on it) you can alter things such as types of fuel, timing, boost and even go back to standard, just by plugging in to your car. There are 3 main SPS to buy and it depends how much you spend as to what you can change.
I would suggest that you pay the extra as you have put the idea in their minds..:banned: and they may just check it..
The others are right in that it is hard to check and would be too expensive for them to send every ECU away for checking..
You also have to tell them if you change other things such as exhausts and alloys as these can be seen by any old assessor..

hmm..say i got it remapped and didnt tell em

if the bloke before hd it remapped and i didnt know about it, and the insurance ran the checkl, i could always just plead ignorance

so revo is a good bet? any idea on prices or the different levels (i could always ring them up of course...)

Ignorance is no defence in the eyes of the law.

If you run into the back of me and they just maybe decide to check the ECU they might find it, invalidate your insurance and then mine!

True, they will only find the remap if they look hard for it - but do you want to take that risk?

It never cease to amaze me what people hope to get away with to save a few quid without thinking of the ramifications.

Incidentally my 1.9TDi Pd 130, remapped to 175bhp, cost £560 fully comp (mods declared!) with Noel Dazely - and I'm 24 with two previous accidents.

Tell them!

If you are involved in an accident with third party fatalities (god forbid) the insurance company could be looking at a huge payout and would look very hard to find a reason to avoid it ie voiding your insurance!
