rattling gear stick

Hi all

driving a mk4 ibiza fr tdi and have a rattly gearstick. its only when its in neutral when iv just taken it out of gear. its quite loud and really annoying. any of you lot have this problem and do you have any ideas on how to sort it out?

if you do a search you will find threads about the diesels doing this, I forget exactly but I think it's to do with the gear selector linkage

BTW my petrol one used to rattle and I found that It was the round disk insert in the gear knob to show the gear positions was loose
I squirted some pva wood glue into it and all was good

My 06 fr tdi ibiza does it to just the car. some have some don't. i know someone else that has had it from new on his ibiza now 70k on clock still does it. seat can't fix it????????????

Mine used to do it really badly, after being put in neutral. It's due to play in the linkage just below the gearlever gaitor.

It also used to do it in 4th gear too.

The dealer couldn't (or should I say - couldn't be arsed) to fix it.
