Dear Folks,
I have myself a Seat Ibiza 1.4 SXE made in 1997, my problem is that the car is randomly cutting out whilst driving. The electrics are fine in the car, for example the radio carries on playing, headlights etc... are all fine when it does cut out. However it's as though the engine just switches off, which means the power steering and braking assist stop working too.
A brief history is that several weeks ago in heavy rain the car just stopped, after 10 minutes and the rain dying down a little, the engine started up again - no worries!
Anyway, several weeks later driving down the motorway I noticed a couple of times only for a split second, the engine lost power - but again it carried on fine.
Moving on, a couple of weeks back, within around 15 minutes of having the car running, I was driving along doing 30mph and lost all engine power, I had to roll to a stop on the side of the road. Anyway after around 45 minutes, the engine fired up again no problems.
Last week the same thing happened, only that time it only took 5 minutes to work again.
Until finally, it happened again last week so I took it to the garage, this time it wouldn't start until the following day when the garage took a look.
They thought it was the distributor so swapped it out for a known working one instread, however they noticed that power wasn't reaching the distributor so thought it has to be the electrics...maybe even the ECU.
So I take the car to the SEAT dealership, they take a look and say it is the distributor - I'm thinking otherwise, as that was swapped out in the last garage and it still didn't solve the problem, so I reckon it's gonna conk out again.
Has anyone had a similar problem, or any suggestions???
Thanks for reading, I know it was a bit long winded ;o)
