In the middle of chosing between panel filter or induction kit.

I can get Pipercross panel filter for £37.99

But just seen this induction kit by RamAir for £49.99

My question is, has anybody ever used a RamAir induction kit before? Are they any good, or are they cheap for a reason?

By the way it's for a 1.9 tdi 110.

Cheers.

Ive heard of the brand but i have never seen one fitted on a seat. I think you will be better off with just the panel filter as induction kits tend to suffer heat soak and loose power rather than gain unless you spend time/money on heatshielding and proper ducting

Is it not just a cold air feed in to the air filter? Usually fits where the fogs are.

Ram-air is very popular on motorbikes, especially Kawasaki, but to get maximum benefits it's a lot more complicated than just running a pipe from the front in to the airbox

Yeah I know about heat soak etc and hot to combat it, as had that problem on my old car! (will solve heat soak by custom making air filter box &/or having 2 cold air feeds).

But then again, that is a bit of hassle, and panel filter would be sooooo much easier. But, induction may give a little tiny power gain & a much nicer noise (I hope, not sure about the noise induction kit will give on a diesel, I presume it's the same as on petrols???)

I had a Ram Air Max flow kit on my Mk3 Ibiza Cupra - Worked pretty well.

But I'm just not a huge fan of foam filters! I saw a lot of folk with Jap Import cars (and HKS foam filters) and they degraded and fell to pieces when you touched it, like an old sponge! Pretty sure it must've been getting sucked into the manifold in a lot of cars!

hmmm, that's put me off a bit... but then again the pipercross panel filter is also foam. So I think it's gonna be foam either way. Unless I could spend a little more on panel filter & go with K&N for cotton filter. (i know everyone will say go with green cotton, but they're like twice the price!).

I used RamAir on an LCR, none of the issues Glanza raised affected me.

The main issue was the overall build quality, the intake kept falling off (Slightly different design to that link above) and it became a PITA to keep reassembling.

Sounded good though and was OK value.

For the LCR version supporting the MAF with some additional bracing was a good idea.

I would just do a green cotton cone if I were doing it again

P.S I'll mention I never had these problems with my RamAir filter - it seemed fine after ~1.5years on the car. But other foam filters I have seen haven't filled me with confidence. I just kept it because it was on the car when I bought it and seemed like a good kit (MaxFlo came with a heatshield and a brace)

I suppose if you maitain the foam filter as you would with any other you shouldn't have any problems.

I had a Ramair air filter after about 1000 miles the base seperated from the filter, on the model I had it looks like the filter is only a press fit into the base. There was however a strong internal wire cage to prevent the foam being sucked in.

I'm running an open cone SupaRam RAMAIR and have had 0 problems. It's extended and angled downwards & I run a cold air feed from my foglight grill which I've hollowed out one side for a stealth style install while retaining the fog :)

Let me know if you want a picture, I need a heatshield though! :D
