I have been trying to find out what removal key is correct for my 05 Altea, it has the standard radio and so far I have down to 2 types of keys.

1st choice I think these come in sets of 4

and option 2:

I remember having a bad experience with option 1 with my ford focus as the keys got stuck.

Can someone please confirm the correct set to use and how to do it as I think they have to go in facing the correct way? Do the click in or just insert and the radio pops out?

I've got ones with a slightly thnner working end than option 1 (can't see option 2)
You can do it with 2 but 4 maybe easier. If you look at each side of the unit towards the top there is a tiny little gap about 4mm wide to slide key into - all it does is release a flat spring type catch - nothing sophisticated. There are 2 similar on the bottom edge. Release all 4 and the unit either pops out or you have to get your finger nails around the edge to tease it out.

i used option 2 they just spring clips two at the side at the top of the radio and 2 at the bottom i had 2 sets to remove my radio when i fitted my bluetooth but agree with crispdust comments the thinner the better had to file the last one a little thinner to get all 4 in and then try easing the radio out

so what you are saying it it dosent matter what key you use as its only bending a flap back to un lock, as long as it thin to fit in the slot?

yeah that all it is i used a very thin pocket knife to feel the clips first then pushed the keys in and it just pulls the bars inward releasing the radio

Choice 1 is what I have for my Toledo MFD (double din HU). They work fine for me, I don't know what your head unit looks like.

I recommend you get them from Ebay, and don't worry about going for a 'hong kong special'. I think I paid £1.50 for four keys, and while they took a week to arrive, they worked fine.

And yes, they are just pushing back a clip. However, on my head unit, there's nothing to pull on, so I found it useful for the keys to actually 'lock' in place and enable me to remove it. On other cars I simply use four pieces of metal to disengage the clips, then stick my fingers in the cassette slot to pull it out!

Radio removal tools.

I used four thin bits of metal to get mine out, just pushing the clip in does the trick, but you do need to put something in all four slots at the same time.

My 2 pennys worth. :)
