LOL at least most of the guys there are realistic, it does make me laugh that people think that a few BHP more in a car will mean its alot faster and forget about weight, torque etc.

The R is not naturally quick but what it does do is handle brilliantly and looks stunning therefore I think the overall package is far greater than the cupras. I bet any cupra driver would swap in an instant for a R, cos it is a drivers car, not a 'chav' mobile!

Quote from Post 29 - Quite an old thread (2008)

R32 owners have a nice car, can't dispute that, but to me it's in the middle of something and nothing. It has the grip, but not the power, and the Mk5 version just doesn't have the road presence of the Mk4 version which was beautiful. Horribly expensive to get serious power from, and without doubt any true enthusiast would agree that the Leon Cupra R was the best bang per buck achieved out of an OE Mk4 Golf platform. They all wear the same badges under the bonnet.

I have seen this before. But anyway, that poor mans VW comment is wasted on me to be honest. I can't say for a minute that anyone on here bought their LEON because they couldn't afford a Golf, me included. I bought my LCR because there wasn't anything else like it offered by VW. The GTi was a boring car to drive and under powered, the V5 was just...well...yeah, no real feelings for that, the 4motion was uninspiring and a pointless model to have made to be honest, does it want to an R32 or a GTi? Then you have the R32, I can't fault that, I love it but you can't really compare it to the LCR. Do you want a 4wd V6 hatch or a high powered Turbo hatch? It's either one or the other really.

It's interesting that they thought the R32 would be that much faster isn't it. The Mk5 R32 has a power-to-weight of ~165bhp/tonne and the LCR ~163bhp/tonne. 2bhp will translate to nothing on a public road. They're right that a remapped LCR will be quicker though with ~196bhp/tonne.

Also comments about the R32 being quicker through the corners is just wrong. 4WD doesn't give you better cornering, it gives you better traction out of corners. Less inertia (weight) gives you better cornering.

At least they noticed the LCR has 4-pot Brembos :)

I love the fact that apparently LCR's are chavmobiles! I bought an LCR over a golf because they look so much better, vw's are massively overpriced and the golfs just seem so dull. Put together well, but thats about it. If I wanted 4wd, I would have an S3 over the R32 any day

i think the Leon is much better looking car than the GTI, i would have an R32 but they just cost too much. If i had that much money, i would buy something better (350z, R34 Skyline, older M3). I wouldn't call the Leon chavy either, you see more chavs in low spec golfs with massive wheels, body kits, etc than you do Leon's. I think Seat got the Mk1 Leon Spot on - Cupra Great car, well equipped, quick, stunning looks..... Yes i would trade my Cupra for an 'R' anyday but i'm more than happy with my Cupra.

Golfs are just over-priced.

Are they having a laugh or what?

there is no way a r32 would eat a Cupra R..(despite what the vw broucher tells them)... not even before the lcr is remapped . i had a run in with R32 in the past in my yellow lcr . and i had him big time. i think the r32 is over rated over weight sloppy cornering and its torque curve does not match that of a K04 turbo not forgetting the LCR IS A ROAD GOING VERSION OF THE TOURING CAR ( Toledo leon same car just 6inch shaved off . to make the leon) i dont remember seeing vw r32 winning any touring car avent. why cause its just not the right set up for the btcc. so dream on r32 boys,

Big mistake messing with the CUPRA R

good find tho...

you made me laugh cheers.

Most likely at work
my mates got an R32 and he says its sluggish compared to a LCR...as said above if i wanted a 4wd i would definately pick the S3 over the R32 without a doubt.

i love my LCR as its very VERY understated and underestimated. good to put some snobby people in their place really. buying a 2nd hand car with £8-9k to play with,it doesnt matter which car "was cheaper out the factory" as you can get good deals on every car in the used market...

you stick to your R32s,we will stick to our Cupras. thank you for your co-operation,good night.

TBH I think this post is the wrong way round

#29. I bet any cupra driver would swap in an instant for a R, cos it is a drivers car, not a 'chav' mobile!

This is proved in post #33 with this.

yeah i ad a seat cupra r in 2003 an it was wicked, the 210 version though, its quick and brembos are ace but my m8 got an r32 and i am well glad i copied im cos i luv it!
I think if you met 'GreyR32' he would be donning a pink kappa jacket a la vicky pollard
