My LCR was due to be replaced in October, probably by a new Golf GTI but a change of my personal circumstances means I have decided to quit my job, thus loosing my company LCR. I have thoroughly enjoyed this car but make no bones about the fact that I have not had even 1 satisfactory main dealer service in 5 years of SEAT ownership (LEON Cupra for 2 years before LCR). As my soon to be old job, involved travelling the length and breadth of the country, I was lucky enough to have all my servicing and company petrol paid for by the company, so, to put it bluntly, the R, was always 'well used' on a daily basis. I usually work in the South of England, travelling from Bradford on Mondays and returning on Fridays, so both those days the Leon was pushed very hard and always managed to make me smile on smooth flowing roads. The only time the R really needs to be held back a little, is on bumpy A and B roads were the suspension(from my point of view anyway) doesnt seem to be able to cope with rapid successions of undulations and our ever increasing potholes. If you take this into consideration, the the R is an entertaining, fairly quick, different and individual hatch that also has the versatility of having 5 doors and a large boot.
I loved the brakes of the R (for road use). I only ever faded them once when they had plenty of material on them, but care had to be used on a mad thrash when the pad material was low( corporate servicing and stingy dealers meant that pads were kept in for longer than Id have liked) as it was very easy to fade the brakes and a couple of times, a tweak on the handbrake was needed to stop properly!!
The same cannot be said about the way the dealers looked after the brakes, spilling fluid down the outside, destroying the paint finish and nobody wanting to admit fault--leaving a fantastic looking set of brakes looking like they had been involved in a fight with a bad hair colour fliud.
I love the way the R oversteers and I have always been on standard P zeros due to company requirements. A friend in a modified 200SX 'behind me of course', also witnessed 6 inches of clear air on the offside rear wheel during a particular cross country switchback thrash, which I was most supprised to hear, as the R's rear never felt like it was lifting, more of a sliding feeling from what I could recall! Ok its not as adjustable as something like a 205gti but as far as Im concerned, for a big car with a big butt, it does a good job of medium speed adjustability in quick empty roundabouts and the like.
I really dont think that SEAT were ready for the kind of enthusiastic ownership that came with the LCR and as a result, there very poor servicing standards was and still is a major blot on the ownership experience. However, I have loved my time with the R and I really will miss it very much, especially as I am moving to a Fiat seicento in green, that will be a shared car, between myself and my business partner(to save costs!!).
Anyway sorry for the long rant, but I just wanted to share a few bits and pieces with you all and Im sure Ill still be around on here as I feel the community on here made up for the lack of dealer feedback.
Thanks for all your help and support
