Can anyone tell me how easy/hard it is to remove the back seats on my LCR..?? I know the base is simple.. Found that out, but I imagine the backs to be a little more difficult.. Has anyone done it..?
Running it at Pod this sunday and want to see what difference it makes.. The backs seem to weigh quite a bit, so i'm fairly confident it will..
Any help would be great..

Sounds like a whole load of grief to save two hundreds of a second at the 'Pod. It will only be a few kilo's, and as its not exactly a competition car - does it matter? By the time you've got the seat back in and there are loads of rattles and stuff, you'll wish you'd just experimented with tyre pressures or something to give better traction off the line!

Can't imagine there being a load of rattles with just removing the seat backs mate.. It's not like taking the dash out or anything.. I'm removing the spare wheel, boot floor, parcel shelf, and back seats... That will give me a good 40-50kgs saving I reckon.. And when I run a 14.2 in 32oc temps last time, I want to be getting into the 13's.. I have run more 1/4's than had hot dinners (well maybe not.. LOL), so I know a thing or two about it.. And 40/50kgs and 20oc cooler will make a difference mate.. Trust me.. So long as the driver doesn't balls it up..HA!

but if your taking the back seats out your not showing true performance of your car because your not driving day in day out with no back seats are you.

Why not just get better tyres or as reg said deflate the tyres to give better grip

It's fairly easy to do - on the outside side of the seat back (with the seat folded forwards), where the spigot goes into the C-clip, there's a grey plastic bit with a notch in it that you can use to push the clip open.

Then (from memory) you pull the seat back out of the centre mounting point towards you.

I will be trying full road trim and with seats out to compare mate.. The tyre thing has already been done.. What you make up on time, you lose on terminal speed (from drag).. Plus i'm running Conti sports at min and I find them pretty awesome for grip to be fair.. About 1000000000000000000000 times better than the shite Pirelli's..
Besides, i'm not taking the whole ruddy interior out the car.. Just a few easy-ish bits.. If you go to Pod, you'll see that alot of people do the same..
I will report back the times and results on sunday night.. Both, with seats in and out..

Ben,

If you want to save more weight, why not wear a bin-liner and jog around the block a few times before going on the strip. Speaking of the strip, why not go naked? Those boxers do it to get down to optimum weight!

Should save a bit more weight. Try starving yourself before the event too. :p

No problem my friend, and I am glad you think of me in that way.

Why do you need to save weight anyway? I thought that your LCR was the fastest in the world anyway. Furthermore, now you own one, perhaps it's the only one capable of taking on the mighty CTR.

Sorry, had to be said mate. :cartman:

Exactly mate...All I wanted was a simple answer to my question and a little advice.. Instead I get this tit takin the piss for some reason..
I'm running my car on sunday WITH and WITHOUT my seats to find out what difference it makes and was going to post my results.. But for some reason, it has become a big THING.. All I wanted to know, was how easy the back seats are to take out... JEEEEESUS!!!
Thanks to FEEL for the advice though...

If it is of any information every 30kg you remove is equal to a 1bhp increase, bloke from lotus told me that so it must be true.

Can't see how that can be true... It all depends on what the car weighs.. (if a car weighed 500kgs, a 30 kg weight loss would be alot more noticeable than it would be on say a 1500kg car, would it not?) I roughly worked out what i've removed (55-60kgs) and it works out to be about 10-12bhp equivlent...
I may be wrong though... But all I can say is, IT IS DEFINATLY NOTICABLE, as I tried it the other night.. Those who doubt it, come to Pod on sunday and witness the results yourself. As I will be doing a before and after comparison.. If it doesn't, i'll be the first to eat my hat... LOL
