the EPC light (says in the manual Accelerator Pedal fault) comes on when the ignition is on, but goes out once the engine is started...

is this usual ignition stuff? or something i need to examine? have only had the car for a week, but it has lit up every single time

good to know!

It is my first car, don't want to be throwing money away on problems with ECU.... coil packs and chain tensioners are the big problems

cross fingers :D

the EPC is electronic pedal control, it checks all the pedals and there connections to see if they are fully functional, ive had a problem where i had a brake light off and it brought the EPC light on the dash

Not wanting to appear to be a nit picking b******d, but EPC is short for Electronic Power Control - ie drive-by-wire - so this light only relates to the "throttle system". The fact that this light came on when the brake lights or switch are faulty is just "one of these VAG things" - you would probably see other lights coming on as well depending on engine type and options fitted - all these lights are letting you know, by VAG's secret code, that you have a "brake light issue".
