Hi,

I have had my 05 plate Lcr now for 2 years and so far I have been over the moon with it.

I am going to be changing my car soon and have been looking at lots of different cars.

The new leon cupra is in place for replacing my car as well as possibly a bmw m3 convertable, evo 9/10 or nissan 350z

What are the pros and cons (if any) of upgrading from an LCR to the new leon cupra

Thanks

Ross

the cons are the new leon looks like a big pile of horriableness. Its grotesque to say the least.

Easy there....initially I wasn't too sure of the MK2 but now I'm a big fan.
This engine is fantastic and remaps to 300 BHP+ with no other mods. I would have one in a heart beat.
With approx £2,000 in mods you'll get a 350 BHP 320 ft-lbs torque M3 beater. This coupled with a Quaife diff and you won't find any better for the money and FWD. This will walk away from the Focus RS even before its released.
BUT

It's still FWD, 4WD is the way ahead if you want serious power with great handling.
But you will sacrifice for petrol and running costs.

£ for BHP you won't get a better deal than a MK2 Cupra just now, test drive one and you will see:)

Gotta say, I can't get over the looks of the Mk2 either. Might well be a great car to drive but as RickC says, it looks too much like a people carrier. That and that huge plastic panel where the bonnet and windscreen should meet is ghastly. It's like they couldnt decide what to do and found a cheap piece of plastic in the parts bin.:(

There is nothing to shout about by owning the most powerfull FWD car. Its like being the bloke with the biggest boobs, yeah you have massive boobs, but there on a man, it impresses no one.
As a performance car, in teh wet, not even teh best Differential in the world will make it a fast car.
If you want performance, TBH the evo is teh only way to go. Or The M3 if you like that sort of thing.

if you can afford the running costs and dont mind loosing a couple of seats, the 350z is awesome and looks the nuts!

I thought about changing my LCR for a while but couldnt decide what would be better to replace it so i decided to keep mine now and get lsd for it.But if i was still going to change, umm, there are alot of good cars out there at minute.
The new cupra as standard has better performance over a standard LCR and dont look too bad now they have been out for a while, add some side skirts and a set of lowering springs and i think you would have a good looking car with good tunning prospects. The new focus rs is due out anytime and has had good reviews but then at around 25k it seems alot of money for what it is.Evo 9 would be a good choice, very good for tuning and being able to use the power now we are comming into winter, wouldnt be as cheap to run though, tyres, fuel insurance, and the looks are not to everyones taste, but you cant fault the performance if that is all that matters.

There is a gent around here with a white mk2 cupra.... omg it looks amazing even just completely standard. I'd also have one in less than a heartbeat if I could.

It is easily the best compromise... The Evo screams mid life crisis if your older, or Ricer if your younger, M3.. well you'll be branded with the BMW stick, plus mid life crisis if your older or Ricer if your younger. :D. Dont get me wrong, they are both great cars, but the Leon is easily the best compromise, it can easily be a sensible family car, or you could take it out there and rip up a lot of other cars out there.
