Hi Peeps,

I would very much like your views and opionions...

I have read this and done a search and gleamed a fair bit of info but still want a few opinions:

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=124052

I currently have an Ibiza Cupra remapped to 200bhp. Love it to bits and the missus will keep that car.

I am upgrading my car (a rubbishy rover! :ban: ) to a Leon...

The problem is im having a dillema....

I really really want the Leon Cupra R because of the styling, the brakes and im a petrol head! My heart wants one...

But im also weighing up the Cupra TDI 150bhp or is it the FR Tdi which is also 150bhp? The head tells me this is much cheaper to run and more sensible.....

All cars either being an 03/04/05 plate as I have about £12500 to spend.....

I would get the car mapped.....so we are talking 265bhp for the Cupra R and about 200bhp for the TDI if mapped...

Which do poeple think would be my best option........the TDI is going to be cheaper the Cupra R more expensive to run for sure......but is there a BIG difference.....bar the fuel and servicing......

Are the relative speeds for both when mapped the same or the Cupra R gonna be faster when mapped?

Sorry about the questions, i just want to gauge peoples views...

Cheers

depends on the ammount of driving you do. In short, I was thinking the sdame thing when I bought mine, I drive an LCR but as I work in the city I only drive it at weekends, so petrol is not an issue. However, If I were to get sacked for being on seatcupra.net all day long and had to work elsewhere which required me to drive everyday I would prabably sell up and get an FR+ or TDi for sure.

some may say lala land....
i do about 500 every 10 days, that is one single tank of juice.
if i was in same position as Jay, i would probably do as he.

i got my TDi because of running costs over the R, way to much money for normal live. At least for me.

Each to his own, you need need to decide which fits your overall wants/needs as this is best indicator

500-600 miles is around a tank of fuel with careful driving in a TDi... that's nearly two tanks in an LCR. So use that to work out your fuel costs. As a rough guide, a TDi will save you around £50 a month in fuel based on current prices. Is that enough of a saving to sway you towards the TDi?

Personally, with that mileage, I think you should go for the LCR. That's not the sort of mileage where it's going to cripple you paying for LCR fuel. I do about the same sort of miles and find it fine :)

TAX is cheaper on the TDi, just under half the cost in fact. But that's an annual fee.

Check out the new Leon Ownership Comparison thread at the top of the forum for all the facts, figures and prices you need :) ;)

I do 300 miles a week and drive an LCR.

If you're really into cars and don't mind paying that little extra then go for the LCR. If I had no interest in cars then I'd definitely gone for the TDI. I guess it depends on whether you are willing to make sacrifices.

I honestly don't think an LCR is any more expensive to run than any other 'run of the mill' performance car (e.g. Focus RS, ST, Clio, Megane etc...)

Go for it mate, you could always sell it if you find it’s too expensive!

yeah good point Al g :)

just chcked on my last MOT, did 103,000 in 06 and just been MOT'ed at 115,000

So doing more miles than first thought..... 12,000 a year....all in....

1000 a month.............but again will be dropping though.....

Get round the styling (exterior at least) by getting at FR+ (which has the Cupra R bumpers etc but with smaller 17" Cupra R replica wheels)

Get round the brakes by upgrading (although still wont be Brembos unless you want to spend a fortune)

As for being a petrol head - no solution.

Agree entirely. If you really are worried about petrol costs then there is no point in looking at the LCR, as you'll always be wondering how much you could be saving. Fuel savings as your priority = TDi.

If you want the looks of the LCR... get a FR+ with the LCR kit already fitted.

If you're a petrol head and think the fuel costs will be affordable, get the LCR.

It's quite simple when you think about it

It was more the insurance costs for me! And the fact I wouldnt have been able to get an R with similar miles etc to my FR for the money. Which was already more than I had planned on spending

But petrol did come into it even though I dont do mega miles.

Plenty of time for something less economical when it's time for a change.

Of course I was just planning to keep in standard until I bloody came on here. Now I've got a shopping list as long as my arm! and :D

if you would want more power re map it and should be faster than a standard LCR i woul go for the Tdi worth more when you need to sell it

wilobach... whilst what you're saying is correct, you need to bear in mind that comparing standard cars to modified cars is not an accurate way to judge this situation. If some TDi owners here are to be believed, and they are(!), then remapping a TDi isn't as simple as just buying a remap... as you need to upgrade the clutch too at around £700. So it's not quite as straight forward as you make out. There are loads of happy remapped TDi customers who haven't upgraded the clutch, but they seem to be occurring less and less these days for some reason?
