Problem with TDI

Hello, I've noticed a sound on my 1.9 TDI Ecomotive.

The sound comes only when the engine is cold, I've uploaded a clip where the sound can be heard.

I have booked time at the seat workshop, the problem is just that the sound only comes when the engine is cold, what about the warranty, if the sound can not be provoked when I'm in the workshop.

Is an audio file is enough to prove that there is something wrong?

Hope some people have an idea of what is wrong.

Drop the car around the workshop the night before, get a lift home and a lift back to collect it. This way it will be cold when they look at it.

Sounds like a loose baffle inside the exhaust or maybe the insides of the cat are broken.

I've thought about letting my car left overnight, but the workshop is located in Germany, 300 km from my home. Only use this workshop because I have not been happy with them located here in Denmark. But then i get to sleep in a hotel :)

You say exhaust or cat, have heard from others that it may be clutch bearing, gearbox or flywheel ...

What do you say about that, does it sound right?

it sounds to me to be either the cat, the baffles in the exhaust or an exhaust heat shield that has come loose and rubbing/rattling on the exhaust.

Then i just don't understand why the sound stops when i pulled down the clutch..

And if it is the exhaust, wouldn't it be all the time?

I just checked the heat shield, and it seems that there is a screw missing.. so maybe you are right..

It sounds like the dual mass flywheel has gone to me. especially as it changes when you put in the clutch. If you can feel a judder through the clutch pedal, like the clutch is rough I'd say it was a given. I had it myself a couple of weeks ago when mine went :(

It's expensive to pay for as the clutch will likely need changing as well.

Well, i hope the warranty will cover the costs.. Do you think it will?

I bought the car April 2008, so there is 1½ month left..

It should be, all long as the milege isn't too high? But they do get funny about clutches and stuff because they may claim its just wear and tear!

The mileage is about 77.000 km...

How many km warranty is there on clutch and flywheel? I expect about 100.000 km

One thing i don't understand, i read about other Seat 1,9 TDI who had problems like mine, and it seems that there normally would be a noise constantly, when the clutch isn't pulled down, or is it only because it's the beginning of the destruction of my flywheel? :D

Is there a explanation for the sound, only shows up when engine is cold? and this morning no sound at all?

If i let the car stay at the workshop overnight, i really do hope it sounds like ****, when they start up the engine.. So there will be no doubt...

I could imagine them saying, that i need to drive until the flywheel is totally screwed up, and my warranty is gone :(

mine sounded like you were shaking a bolt around in an empty bucket at low revs but quietened down as the revs rose. Oddly the day I took it to get it fixed it was quiet. If the flywheel is on it's way out it could sound worse when the engine is cold as it won't run as smoothly then. It could quieten down as it warms up the and engine gets smoother.

Mine went at around 51,000 miles, about 82,000 kms. I'm well out of warranty so didn't even try to claim.
