got 35watt 6000k hids in my dipped deam no problem, they work fine. however ive tried to put exactly the same type of bulb into my main beam and they wont work properly!?

they work with no igniton on fine, but as soon as i start the engine they go really dim and it comes up as a bulb failure. any ideas!?

Found this on HIDS4U.CO.UK

We have named it the Ultimate HID kit as it has been specifically designed for new (2002 on) cars that have sophisticated electronic systems. In many cases these systems are programmed by the manufacturer not to work with the standard HID Conversion kits.

This is now the third generation since its release in 2006 and the latest generation ballasts are smaller, lighter and draws even less power than the earlier generations. We can barely keep up with demand for these kits as they are not mass produced. Each kit is manually inspected and tested prior to leaving the factory!

The Ultimate CarPro kit is a Quality HID conversion kit that will not damage any of the cars electronic systems due to its unique soft start and it will fool the cars on board computer to overcome the pre-programmed anti-HID conversion settings made by the manufacturers. The quality of the kit speaks for itself when you see the components and we have had almost no component failures with quality matching OEM factory fitted HID Xenon. The Ultimate is light years ahead of the competition and all our knowledge and tricks are programmed into the special microprocessor inside the digital ballast. No bulb Alarms, No shutting down, No interference and no damage to the car!

Unlike the cheaper kits that can be made to work with some of the newer cars, we strongly recommend this kit over such kits that rely on add-on solutions. The Ultimate ballasts do not rely on additional components such as resistors and capacitors, which get hot and can cause other problems and interference with the car after relatively short periods of time. A new ECU for most cars can cost from 350 to 1000 GBP!

The Ultimate kit is a wise choice for any car where you want to simply fit and forget, and it's a must for the following cars:

Audi - A4, A6 2005 on
Audi - A3 2002 on (can only be used in conjunction with a relay harness- contact us for details)
BMW – All 2002 onwards and also 3, 5, 7 Series 1998 onwards.
Jaguars – All S Types and post 2002 other models
Landrover – Post 2003 Ranger Rover, Freelander and Discovery
Mercedes - Post 2002 all models inc A, B, C, E and G Class
Porsche - Cayanne, Cayman, Boxster
Peugeot 407 (we recommend using with a relay as it can affect wiper motor- contact us for details)
Saab - 9-3, 9-5 2000 on
Skoda – 2005 onwards
Seat - 2005 onwards
Vauxhall - Vectra C, Signum, Corsa C, Mk 5 Astra
Volkswagen - 2004 onwards
Volvos – 2002 onwards

As with the latest development with factory fit HID Xenon lights the Ultimate CarPro kit has separate starters, making the ballasts even smaller and this will help you when trying to find a snug spot to mount them.

i thought that they were only 35w to start with?

The HID's are 35W, but Halogan bulbs are 55W.
If the wattage is less than 55W, the ECU thinks there is a blown bulb, hence the bulb failure warning.
If you read the info above it will detail how the Ultimate kit works.

I tried it in my previous car & tbh, they are too bright.
Amazing light output, but the HID's don't like to be "flashed" as it cuts the life span down.

I wouldn't bother, if that's all you wanting to achieve.
Get some Xenon look halogen bulbs - far less hassle.

I assume you are looking for a white light to match? How often do you see the front of your car anyway with the main beam on?

Best bet would be Osram nightbreakers in your full beam and fog light bulbs then at least you will get the same white light look without the pain and grief!!!!

Although must admit the life span of the Nightbreakers I had in my dipped beams were pants lasting barely six months (not sure whether autolights affected this)
