My heater seems to only have two settings, Hot - 18 degrees and above, or cold 'LO' - there is no happy medium, all of the settings above lo work on the same heat intensity.

It used to work fine, with a smooth transition of heat increase but now i have to keep it on lo all of the time to prevent it from roasting me. Anyone have the solution?

:)

Mines just recently started doing this as well. 2003 ibiza.

I didnt use the car for over a week, and it was fine after that for a few days, but then stopped working again

I'd think that it could be investigated using VAG-COM - but resolving it would probably mean taking things to bits - maybe use search function to see if anyone has reported needing to fix one as I think that it has been covered before.

This is exactly what mine does! It has been like this since I`ve owned it so I always thought it is more of a characteristic than a fault.

Is that my car`s twin you have there PJ? ;)

People with heater temp problems......................

1. do both of the outside temp readings seem the same as what they say on the weather forcast.

2. don't forget that there is an interior temp sensor fitted into the dash, this could be reading wrong (say 12 deg) This will make every temp setting above the lower limit of 18 pump out hot air. Even when working correctly if you select lOW or HI the climate does not use the controll system (it ignores the interior temp reading) and will just go flat out AC or flat out heat.

Get vag com and check your interior temp sensor readings

Hope that helps

Don't even need vag-com do you?

Can't you just press all 5 of the central buttons then scroll through and check all the temperatures. I'm sure both outide and inside temps are on that list.

^^^^no but if you see an internal temp reading of 12 deg in the morning on a day that the weather forcast says 3 deg you have a clue what part to replace.

Could this problem also be down to a clogged air filter/pollen filter (up behind the glovebox) and/or not enough refridgerant in the system, as well as possible faulty temp sensors.
Remember if you want to clean the grill around the temp sensor, NEVER hoover it, it will damage the sensor.
I changed my pollen filter over the summer and after I did I got more air and it felt cooler too, also it didn't A) smell bad when I put it on recirc and B) the car didn't steam up so easily.
Could be worth looking into.
