I don't have one but from reading the forums daily i can honestly say that I have not read about any serious problems with it at all.

I test drove one before buying my cupra and I was smitten. It's an amazing box. Just wish they had it on the cupra as well as i would have paid the extra.

Hi, i have a fr tfsi with the dsg and till now no problem at all with it or ever had listened about any trouble with one.
Made me choose it instead of the cupra model and all i can say is, that's a fantastic piece of equipment.

Likewise - I have a MY08 FR TFSI with DSG and also have not had or heard of any problems as yet - touch-wood...
Its a fantastic box and was the reason we bought the Leon over the Civic. Apparently it can also take a stage one remap up to 260-270bhp without any problems...although I'm happy with the 200bhp on tap so far...:D

While extensively researching my FR DSG purchase I failed to turn up any reports of serious mechanical problems with DSG boxes, and I spent a long time looking. The only issues I saw were unconfirmed reports of clutch problems caused by TT drivers over using the launch control feature. Launch control with 230bhp and the 4x4 system would load the small clutch plates up pretty good I suppose.

After 6 months with DSG I wouldn't part with it now, just fantastic. If there was a DSG Cupra I'd probably have bought that though.

Hi all, my car is a MY07 Leon FR TFSI DSG. I've owned it since Jan 08, and until recently the DSG has been perfect. However - several times when I've pulled away at roundabouts having not quite stopped, all I get is the engine revving, and absolutely no drive! It's like it's in neiutral. The only way to "cure" it is to take foot off accelerator, and basically try again - but by that time I'm usually half way onto the roundabout and in serious danger of being killed.

I've noticed it does this usually after driving quite quickly, but not every time.

It is also very slow to engage Reverse gear - takes at least a second and sometimes more - has always been like this.

Anyone else had this sort of thing happen or is it just mine? Maybe a visit to the stealer is in order...

That aside I do like the DSG, but not sure I'd have it again - it's too scary when it doesn't work properly.

if i were you mate , i would be straight into the stealer and demand a replaced gear box while its still covered under warranty , otherwise if you leave it and it gets worse or (you get killed on a roundabout) which is never a good idea? then you may be paying about 5k for a new gearbox which is also never a good idea!! i would tell them to replace the gear box completley or give them the car back because its not safe to drive. safety first and all that..................... good luck with it and hope you sort it out :funk:

Hi K362, yep, the car will be going back to Westerham Garage somepoint this week so it can get sorted. I'll let you know how I get on...

I've not had much luck with Seat gearboxes - the first MK1 Cupra TDi I owned had to have both a new gearbox AND a new clutch under warranty at just 8000 miles, and the second MK1 FR+ TDi had to have a new clutch at just 15000 miles. Both times Seat paid, fortunately, although they did try to suggest it was "wear and tear". Before that I'd never had a clutch replaced in 11 years of driving, and some of the cars I've had have done a huge mileage, so I don't think it's my driving!

Rumours are the MY2010 Cupra (facelifted one) will probably have an option for the DSG gearbox...

They are indeed. The new improved 7 gear one. Whether there will still be issues with it, who knows. But personally I would steer well clear if you like to modify your car! Unless ofcourse you dont mind forking out a couple grand.

Yeah, a couple of days ago I read the S3 is going to get it as well so it's only natural that the Cupra will get it.

It must be a new version of the 7-gear one though, not the same as the one they're putting in the 1.4 engines as that can't handle the torque.

Personally I'd love an S3 Sportback with DSG gearbox and a few extras, but it's not going to be cheap.
