Problem with climate control blowing cold

Hi all, i'm new to this forum and am what you call a "newbe"!!

I have recently purchased a (55) plate Ibiza FR TDI on 52k.

I have not had much luck since I bought it and need some positive encouragement that I have done the right thing be buying Seat and a little advice please!

First I had to replace the intercooler to turbo air pipe - annoying but only 25 GBP, not bad!

Second my radio will not accept its security code. It says to enter the code and press PTY, but upon pressing the PTY button it does nothing, there’s no music to be heard nor does it say "wrong code". It literally does nothing but show the code I have entered.

Third my climate control has stopped working. I can change the temp and the fan speed but it still blows cold air. I noticed this morning that if I accelerate hard the air heats up for 15-20 seconds but then returns to cold. I won't admit to speeding but it didn't take me long to get to work!

Any help in resolving these matters would be appreciated.

Many thanks Mike

For the radio you have to hold the PTY button in till it accepts the code. Also you may just have to press it harder, the number 4 on mine needs pressed twice as hard to work.

Worth a try!

I'd hazard a guess something like a bang or pop and power loss and some smoke out the back - or just a bit of noise when the turbo was pumping well!

Hi, I tried to check the coolant level last night when I got home from work but low and behold my torch didn’t work ether!! Not a good day!
(i work 12 hour shifts and live 1 hour from work, 14 hours out of the house)

I did hold down PTY for over 10 seconds but still no radio? I'm getting better at singing though!

With regards to my pipe, I had a loss of power and a noise that sounded like it was between the exhaust blowing and a really deep induction noise. It also started to produce clouds of black smoke.
I assume this was because the car was being starved of air, over fueling and the black smoke being the fuel burning off.
The pipe was 25 GPB from white dove Cardiff, local seat stealer (bunch of unhelpful wotsits). It was fiddly to fit but fairly straight forward.

Cheers Mike

Re. Temp

Do you have climate control? Is there any outside temp showing on the climate control.

Two possible causes of the temp issue.

1. Thermostat (in the housing) (Most likely) c£15
2. Coolent Temp Sensor (probably not likely) c£40

Yeh mate I have climate control and the display is working as it should.

It's showing outide temp, fan speed increases and decreases, temp increases and decreases on the display but the air coming out of the blowers is always cold apart from if i give it a foot full.

But you will get shift allowance to keep you happy!

This sounds a bit like pump impellor problem - I've forgotten, has the cam belt been changed yet,if not and if its about due, then change the pump at the same time, only other thing in there is the thermostat and off course an air lock - use search for these topics and see what the consensus is - it might just be exactly what your problem is.

Well I've checked your OP and the good news is that you are about due a belt change - so do that and add in a pump change - maybe for good luck(?) change the thermostat as well while the coolant is out. That would kill quite a lot of birds with one stone - if the belt has been done before you bought this car, then air lock might be the problem - release the pressure cap when the engine is hot - TAKE USUAL PRECAUTIONS or if you don't understand that statement leave well alone - anyway if you know what you are doing, with the cap off rev the engine a bit a few times and see if the water levels drops as the air comes out into the top-up bottle (if there was any air) also, if these cars pass some water through this bottle, can you see any water movement that would indicate that the pump is moving water - I've forgotten if you can see this on these cars - sorry!

You really need to work out which water pipe is which and see if the hot water is getting circulated around the car.

Ok. Well mine had the same problem. Outside temp was not showing so reconnected that, still not fixed.

Found it was because of the thermostat (or in my case I didn't have one fitted! figure that one out!)

£15 later all fixed, new thermostat fitted, problem solved.

If you have VAGCOM then i found the engine coolent temp was to low (around 80c, should be around 100c), being caused by the water free flowing round the engine.
