I just went out to my car to fit some new H1 and 501 bulbs and after 20 minutes I've changed 0 out of 4 bulbs!

I couldn't even work out how to remove the exisiting 501 bulbs, can anybody explain please?

Also, the electrical connector on the H1 bulbs felt like it was welded in place, no matter how hard i pulled I just couldnt remove it! Can anyone offer any advice please?

501's (sidelights) need a good pull mate.

They twist round and are looser one way than the other then squeez your finger tips together and pull sharply....beware finger tips will get hurt the first few times lol

Other bulbs have holders. they are thin 'bars' that need to be opened like a safety pin (push into light move to one side and will open. then bulb almost falls out.

Do Not Touch the Bulb Glass!!!

Good Luck

cheers for that. i know the H1's have a wire clip holding them in place, my problem with them is that the electrical connector will not disconnect from the bulb!

Yeah skahigh I have had the same problem - the other weekend I tried to change a bulb and could i get the damn thing off????? With what BHP ad said I'll give that technique a go this weekend and see if I can finally change it!

I tried to disconnect the wires from the bulb but did not want to pull too hard in case it broke. Will give it one last try before I lose my rag!

As above, the 501's need a good tug - dont pull the wire, just the housing for obvious reasons...

The main bulbs are easy enough, pull out electrical connector (hold plastic housing & pull hard), then undo metal clip and the bulb will fall out.

You might as well get HID's :)

chris, i've already fitted the H7 hids, cant see how there is room for another set of ballasts though so I've got some osram nightbreaker H1's to go in.

Also got two sets of sidelights, some led ones i bought off ebay a couple of weeks ago and a set of philips bluevision which came free with the osrams. Any opinions on which is better?

dont fit the bluevisions mate. They are very yellow and wont match your HIDs one bit. Get the LED's in.

I've heard a lot of people having problems with the LED's failing from overheating - I'd keep the bluevisions handy for that reason - I had them in the Ibiza and they were very blue compared with standard bulbs

I must have faulty ones then, cause mine are as blue as the sun

i have some LED sidelight bulbs in my car, were a pain to replace, and in the end i used a pair of pliars to get a decent grip on the holder, while using a small screwdriver to get down the side of the holder and disengage the clips. took me about an hour to work that one out!

i prefer the led versions, as the "blue" bulbs dont really have a decent colour, just yellow really, you'll definately notice a difference with the led. Plus, if u use xenon bulbs or hid, they offset the colour perfectly. on mine the blue of the led look like the pupils in the giant white eyes of my headlights lol :D

got my leds from autobulbsdirect, reasonable too, £8 for two bulbs

h1 dipped, h7 main.
If you want to fit hids you will need a kit that includes bulbs and ballasts and the associated wiring.

My personal experience with goods from the far east has not been good, many others on here have had a good experience - its uo to you.
And yes to the 2nd question.

I swore a few times when I changed mine, and cut my knuckles in the process the 1st time....but a really easy job when you think about it, F & R indicator bulbs are even easier - silver ones look the biz
