Prices for Leon Parts & Servicing

I am considering the purchase of a Leon 2.0TSI FR (although I am starting to go off the idea).

Having never owned a Audi/VW/SEAT before, I have been doing some research before I commit myself. This includes checking out the cost of parts and servicing. It seems to me that SEAT might be extracting the urine with their prices:

Ipod Lead - £85 (worth about £20 at best).
Driver's Armrest - £140 + fitting.
Front & Rear Mudflaps (fitted) - £400 What!!?
Cambelt Change (OK, I know the TSI engine doesn't have a cambelt ;) ) - £620 (plus recommended water pump replacement at £140). This means it will cost an owner £190 per year just to have an FSI engine with a cambelt (as the cambelt should be renewed at least every 4-years)!

Am I out of touch, or are SEAT charging silly money for parts & service?

Ipod lead - sure you can get alternatived which are cheaper, agree the SEAT one is expensive. If you go for the Media system though use an SD card - its easier!
Cambelt - usuallty offers on this around the £299 mark.

Doesnt sound the cheapest but I am sure its cheaper than a VW or Audi.

Mudflaps 400 quid fitted?!? Paid 80 quid for mine (which was bad enough) and fitted them myself. Contrary to the supplied instructions you don't need to remove the rear wheels either.

iPod Lead - You can get SEAT one for £60 from Sere Motors on here, or buy the BMW one which is 100% compatible £30-£40, final option cheap copy off of Ebay about £20 which work ok.

Drivers Armrest you can negotiate a little on price of the part say 10% or get it thrown in free as part of the deal.

Mudflaps sound part of a pack £80 is full retail again you should be able to negotiate 10% off the price or go to Ebay for £10 have seen OEM ones for £20 a pair.

Servicing is not cheap first service is around £140 then £180-£200, SEAT service is about the same as VW but cheaper than Audi. Cambelt change is an expensive option but at 4 years you would be mad to use a dealer and go to an independent.

Having brought new I have gone for the service plan which cost's us £9.36 a month and will cover 3 services over 36 months. Can cancel at any point without penalty as well.

You're right - Leon mudflaps cost around £40 for a front or a rear set.

I would also fit my own mudflaps. I was just amazed that SEAT would charge £400 to supply and fit. That's £320 labour! Are the mudflaps particularly difficult to fit, or does SEAT charge a ridiculous hourly labour rate?

They're easy to fit. Did mine in about 30 mins. Rear ones take longer than the fronts as they're slightly less accessible (with the wheels on).

So it's a "ridiculous hourly labour rate" then?

I guess they allow an hour per set of mudflaps and charge £160/hour labour.

There's a lot more to buying a car than just getting a good deal on the initial purchase!

Every SEAT dealership I've been to charge around £70 an hour labour.

Well my local SEAT dealership wants to charge £320 labour, so at £70/hour that would equate to 4.6 hours to fit a set of four mudflaps to a Leon (assuming the £70/hour included VAT)!

They need to employ 'Redemption' :D

Maybe ask them how much it will be to fit if you supply the parts? Or try another dealership.

I don't really have a convenient choice of SEAT dealership.

As for the mudflaps - I would buy them online or through some discounted source and then fit them myself. I only asked SEAT how much they would charge to get a feel for their prices. I now know they charge rip-off prices, so they won't be getting any servicing work from me, unless it's warranty work.

Of course, I haven't bought a SEAT yet - and I might not! :)
